In Contra there are these little floater things covered in tentacles that fly at you.
Perhaps you could have some smaller egg sacs on walls and ceilings that opened as you passed them, releasing quick little squid monsters? Or maybe something like what Nautiluses look like, the creepy little things.
I like that idea dragontech :) ill do some concepts :) btw Is it possible to get the "click to enlarge image back"? These images are getting crunched for no reason.
Very rich in Ridiculous Fishing style. Not entirely sure about it... I think the shading on the beard is a bit awkward as well. Is it possible to go for a more organic shape?
Hmm, it's an interesting look... it reminds me of my old action figures. I like it ! :) But on the other hand, it transforms the game ambiance into a more childish one....
@epicfailnot, it would be a big change in what we think the overall ambiance of the game will become. But in fact, i quite like the idea of childish and simple-minded bros, with mini-brains and big muscled arms. I have some examples of games which succeeded to keep this childish ambiance through out their development, and they are not bad games at all :) : the Worms series, the Earthworm Jim series, the Micro Machines series... well, in my opinion.
And i can't help remembering the movie "Small Soldiers" :p
I'm not saying that Broforce must go this way, but if it does, I would not complain about it :)
I think this might look quite good as an avatar, as well as the cutscene characters. It might be more typical in scale, but the overall charm and the action in it makes it more badass. Also, I think it suits the explosive nature of the game more.
Some more concepts and iterating on the design and style. Its fairly rough still and we aren't commiting to anything yet, but we think its looking cool so far! Huge image so be sure to open image in new tab.
I think the original art was much more suitable for the entire feel of the game, contrasting between pixelized and detailed art, this is going more in the direction of slicefight.
My suggestion is that the avatar should be presented in a more organic, and not geometric way. The rambro cinematic art is a one that I like. Also, the hair looks a bit more awkward.
Would it be good if there is a speedrun mode with several different alternatable routes that players can go on, then let the player plan the most efficient route before the attempt, and set maybe waypoints or glowing route lines in the background and let the players execute the planned route? And maybe the levels may be regenerated regualrly in a period of time, so the possibilities will be virtualy endless?
I dig these! I feel that the rest of the body is at odds with the pure geometric shapes of the chin/jawline, so if they can become more base shapes instead of "low-poly" of usual body parts, I think it'd fit awesomely :D
Obviously we love Make Games, this community has been a massive help to us, and we feel deeply grateful for the feedback we've received here, and we will be using Make Games for many prototypes in the future. This isn't Free Lives going away.
@BlackShipsFilltheSky, I know what's really going on...you just want to keep your new gold plated jacuzzi to yourselves, don't you. And if that wasn't enough you are trying to make us jealous by posting about it...I can see right through your evil ways.
I don't think I've mentioned the obvious before so... good job! Not much of a platformerer(er?) myself, but it seems to be a great game. I think the premise is brilliant.
I tried the 'brototype' a while back when I was idle and it was quite fun despite my ineptness. It was... a total Broverload.
Saw the trailer just now. Great stuff, I liked the touch with the final caption getting the explosion it deserved. :)
I saw this interactive presentation. - https://www.dropbox.com/s/c0i6jidrvk6r2io/controlconf.rar by JW FROM Vlambeer that teaches you “30 Tiny Tricks That Will Make Your Action Game Feel Better.” I saw a lot of resemblances between the presentation and Broforce so I guess what I am trying to say is Broforce has all the things it needs to be one of the best action games in the world.
@BlackShipsFillTheSky, ooooooo...I'm so glad to see you could join the plebs again, felt like slumming it 'ey. Just be careful not to get the floor wet while your walking around outside the jacuzzi...kthanks :P
Ok, so on to the trailer. I was really excited when I saw Bropheus and Breo(?), especially once you started showing off his cool abilities. Then, the other stuff came in and it kind of spoiled it for me. Which is not to say the rest of the video was bad, it's just not what I was expecting. I was hoping to see Breo kick some more ass.
It did give me an idea though that I think would be awesome for broforce. I'm not sure how much work it would involve, but I thought it would be cool if you guys made some brintros(that totally works). Have some intro in the high fidelity art style that pays homage to the origins of the bro and then show some gameplay where they feature heavily. It might not show off all the cool stuff that the game has to offer, but I know I've bought games to play with one specific character. I essentially want the first 30 seconds of the trailer...but for every bro.
Another small thing, the explosions at the end were oddly distracting. They looked to real, and because of that, out of place to me. O.o
@Rigormortis I think the word you were searching for was "brotroductions".
Yeah, I agree a more in depth look at a particular bro would be nice. I think we wanted this trailer to be a lot of different things and not all of those things gel exactly.
On a completely different note... here's some art that Jarred was working on that's not exactly Broforce related but I think is super cool:
0:33 douzeju :) We wouldn't lie to you, and you know what I mean by what I'm saying? Yes and no for that matter. But in the sense if are has can notn't if for be vacillating.
Ah, Dolf Lundgren, has a high IQ, a chemistry degree, a Masters degree in chemical engineering, but decides to give the world bad (awesome?) action movies... Gotta love it!
I was redeeming my Steam keys (I got the double-pack)... but the Humble page doesn't actually want to give me Steam keys. Instead, if wants to redeem the keys to my linked account. Which means I basically lose out on being able to give away my second key...? (There's a message there saying that Steam won't provide me with giftable copies of games I already own, so gifting it doesn't seem to be an option.) Any ideas?

(from previous post)
We're wondering about a style closer to this.
(hope I make sense)
Reason is: We've just started a Broforce forum, it's so that we can speak to Broforce backers and fans a bit better.

Just wanted to post that picture you asked me not to share.
You seem to have a Good Time! 58K well spent!
Bro on!
Also smart? The integrated playtest setup. Note how they're both watching the playtest subject's moment of fiero.
Brostar~ Brostar!
Wait I think we've gone down this route before :P

P.S. Not sure the word bro is used enough

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!
The artwork is by the Dawid and the new chrome logo is by Jarred ( @Bevis ).
Also, image doesn't seem to load :\
Is today awesome? (Y/Y)
Super, ultra, proud salute of freedom! :D
