Does one need to reside in Cape Town to apply?
According to a previous post, yes. I never applied for that reason. I have luckily recently been employed :)

Hey, grats and good luck! :)

I've obtained the W-7 and 8233 Form. My first question is how long does the entire process take after sending the documents to the IRS?
If you're applying for an ITIN, I suggest you maybe skip it and rather apply for an EIN. The process is much quicker and can be done on the phone. They have a toll-free number so you can just use Skype. Can be done in under an hour.

Not at all needed.

Steam doesn't, no, but if you have a runaway hit and suddenly make a bucketload of cash, Unity might require you upgrade to Pro. I believe it's somewhere in their terms.

So I recently got greenlit :), now comes the task of setting up vat and getting a build ready for Steam.

I'm more confused than I was before now - I'm not sure where you're coming from with the "I think this thread is useless" angle. I certainly didn't say it
Yes, you did. There's also your subsequent argument for the point that people should "just go make games instead of talking about this." Admittedly, those comments were made a month ago, but you have argued for the idea that posting in this thread isn't worthwhile.
wogan;28202" said:
So what have you (and anyone else in this thread) actually done? For instance:
Is there any of that? Because all I'm seeing in this thread is basically a bunch of name-calling and handwaving and people trying to tell other people that they're fundamentally missing the issue. How that's "achieving an end to the worst outcomes" is completely beyond me.
And to be clear, I'm not doing any of those things, and I'm not going to try to claim some moral high-ground by implying that my time could be better spent elsewhere. But then again I'm not on a one-man crusade to fix what is essentially a design flaw in the human condition. I'll content myself with making and playing games, and being of use to those who ask.
Here you are saying that the thread has achieved nothing, positioning @dislekcia as someone on a 'crusade', and saying that you'll be of use to anyone who asks, which comes with the obvious implication that the opinions in this thread are both unsolicited and useless.
I can't quite see why you think talking about these issues is of little value. The social sciences are devoted to discussing topics like this, and the ideas that come out of discussions inform activist work, you know, the people who do things to try to make society better. And you still haven't addressed the list of this thread's achievements that @dislekcia posted.

And that's 100%, totally, completely fine. It's good, even. It's not my job (or anyone else's) to tell you that your worldview is wrong, or try to convince you that I'm right. Nobody has the authority to tell anyone else that their experiences are meaningless or their conclusions incorrect. I think we'd get a lot more done as a group if we can all just acknowledge that we're on the same team, we come from different places, we see things differently, and that's okay.
Good point, I also totally agree that we should stop arguing with white supremacists and MRAs, their views that people of colour and women are naturally inferior as human beings are totally legit and we should actually listen to their ideas. Who knows, we might learn something!

I havne't seen that much of GG saying they want politics out. But I do think that alot of people would feel less marginalised if there was more intellectual diversity regarding certain topics. At least, that's what I could gather.

I trust you have a quote for this, right? A link to an article where someone called a game and its players evil?

Yeah. I think it's to do with subconscious political affiliations. So my political affiliations are based on an ocean of experiences, and any discussion I have with anyone is a drop in said ocean. It won't make a difference.
All information is processed through a political lens.
My lens is just libertarian, egalitarian, and that won't change, ever.

@crocopede what a coincidence, it seems like I'm doing exactly the same thing as you - just requested for a contract agreement with Apple, right? I just filled in forms and things, was that what you did too? So I should also expect the same form to be sent my way?
Hi.
Sorry for the late response. They didn't send it to me. I picked up in the 8233 form that i mentioned ITIN requirements and noticed its definitely a requirement.
Apple required you to send a copy that you did apply for an ITIN. In the meantime if your game is released they hold on to your monies until your paperwork is sorted and approved
Frankly i find the entire process a bit cloudy and im still piecing things together. ITIN is applied for. But now i read stuff about EIN numbers. So i guess i will just apply for that as well.
• Tax from the US
Hi.
Does anyone have any experience with the Taxing from US?
I am assuming they will always tax you.
Also has anyone used IAD on IOS. I am in the process of releasing a game and upon registering i was confronted with document 8233 for tax exemption.
Not sure if i am understanding it correctly but it appears i need to apply for a ITIN (individual Tax Information Number) with the IRS in the US.

• 30 games in 30 days for GameMaker
Hi Everyone,
Game 1 is up and running so our second 30 games project has officially begun. Today's developer is Kevin Marais (@DraughtVader) from the AppFactory. Our first week at the AppFactory went very well and we're off to a great start. A week in and we're 7 games down; so far so good. Most of the team took a little while to learn the basics, but still managed to get a game out, so this week we are expecting everyone to ramp it up a bit.
Day 1 Game 1
Game 1 is a version of the game Solitaire (or solo Noble), played on 13 different boards using a rect grid.
You'd have to change the appeal sensibilities of the consumers to do that.
Ahh but no you don't! If you imagine the game industry as a pie, the biggest slice (revenue wise) belongs to misogynist self-insert hero-fantasy sort of gamers (Call of Broty, Gears of Bro, Bralo, whatever). There are two ways to change that: Make the slice smaller, OR, make the pie bigger.
Get more "normal people" to buy more indie games, it's as simple as that. Candy Crush and Angry Birds have proven that you can take small, simple games, to the masses, and make some decent money. Now let's just keep repeating that until the entire landscape shifts - does that make sense?
Right now, sales figures from most indie games are too small for big companies to notice. Minecraft just sold to Microsoft for $2.5bn. That would definitely have made some investors sit up, take notice of this "indie game thing", and go, "maybe there is some real money to be made here".
Would you rather have the top 10 charts dominated by games like Minecraft and Risk of Rain? Then get more people to spend more money in the ecosystem.
You realise that calling them misogynists over and over is just fueling the fire right?
You're calling a group of people that include feminists, minorities, men, women, kids etc all misogynists. It just looks bad. And it's fueling the fire.
I don't see why a company that's doing it for the business would cut out the slice of pie that's giving them big moneys.
But yeah, fair enough expanding the pie so to speak, would certainly help your cause. But how would you do that?
I mean we know a toooon of people are getting into mobile and stuff, because lots of people have a phone. And there's a lot of money there. I think flappy bird showed us that in a big way too. But that doesn't mean that games like that will become quite as profitable as like.. Well, Destiny's one. They made their $500m back in a day, but man I'd love to see their total profit figures at this point.
And it's understandable that big AAA studios are gunning for that. Sure smaller games can make good money, but I don't think AAA's just gonna stop doing that stuff to shift to small scale indie?
AAA could be more inclusive, and will be after so much fuss has been made. At least, one would hope. But I don't see why they would target a different audience entirely.
Smaller studios can do what you're proposing perhaps, but big studios have different targets and company expenses (?).

Here are the entries for Ludum Dare 30
Post your links below and I'll update this first post with the descriptions, images and links.
Neon Highway - @francoisvn
Neon Highway is a six-way connected runner. There are 6 different lanes and you control them all at the same time. Fortunately, there are powerups that can lock a lane. If you lock all the lanes you win!

Trading Strategy - @Ramperkash
Trading strategy is a turn based game where you have to conquer a galaxy by establishing connections between different systems. Friendly systems then share resources and automatically improve themselves. Systems (or groups of them) with enough military power can take over hostile connected systems.

SpellChain - @Riocide
I misread the theme as "Connected Words", which inspired me to make a word game. Didn't get to spend as much time as I would've liked on it, but here it is.
