  • Awesome news! I can't wait to download and start experimenting
  • I'm continually amazed at Epic, they are breaking the traditional barriers all over the place! UE4 is quite a lot more challenging to work with than Unity, but they are slowly getting better - the latest release has included an "Add Component" button that mirrors Unity's component based entity system.
  • Great news. I was falling so madly in love with unity that I was afraid after the breakup I would need to commit suicide.

    Aka > its great to have more options.
  • Just read this now. Also saw the $30 thank you for the marketplace on my account and the $20 refunded to my credit card.
    Pretty awesome.

    Time to get content on the marketplace.

    Exactly. There's going to be a hell of a lot more people looking for stuff to help them build, so it's a good time to get in there!
  • Yea. The plan was to get stuff on there long ago. But plans change. Publishing 4 games to IOS and android. Will rework some of that content and create packs.
  • I updated the launcher and saw 30 dollars on my account, that was a nice suprise also been planning to submit some asset packs one day in the far future

    There's still the 5% royalties on gross above $3000 per quarter, but this move eliminates the barrier to entry for people to play with and check it out which is awesome, not to mention allowing both art and code asset developers to create content for their store without having to pay to do so.

    And, I'd you have a team of 2 programmers and 3 artists, the former with additional iOS and Android Unity Pro licenses, that's going to cost you $13 500 just to develop before you've brought in a single penny of revenue. If you used UE, you'd have to have a game generate $270 000 before UE would run you more. And you wouldn't have to pay that money until after you already had it in the form of revenue. Very good risk aversion!

    Lots of pros and cons for it, but this levels the playing field a lot more.

    Though, I'm guessing that Unity will have an announcement today that will designed to take the wind out of Epics sails :)

    I highly doubt that ... coupled with this: Introducing Unreal Dev Grants

    ... Unity has a long way to go before they will be able to out shine Epic at the moment.
  • Oooooo ... that is cool ... game on. 8-}

    This can only be healthy for all Indie Developers ... 8-}
  • I still need to spend some proper time with UE4, but this is very cool.
  • Waiting for announcement about cryengine :D

    There's a handy guide here for people who want to jump from Unity to Unreal:

  • Or if you close to centurion and keen on a short crash course to get you up to speed just pop in here. Bring beer and smokes.
  • I am amazed at how many people now think it is Open Source ... *sigh* ... someone save me from the bad hoomans. 8-{
