  • Happy to do a 7dfps showcase of the games I thought were cool. Provided of course we aren't showing IGTM and have time. <br>
  • I second the Indie Game: The Movie Screening !<div><br></div>
  • I'd also like to do the IGTM screening<br>
  • Who's meant to be doing the flyer for this Event ? Is it FreeLives ?

  • I agree with Merrik, however I feel I do not carry much weight with my opinion.

  • Well we have three for IGTM, three for Talks. A special event for the screening does sound like a cool idea, though. Maybe organise something at the labia? (Is this possible?)<div><br></div><div>Can we get some more votes from the CT community? I'm happy for talks if we want to make IGTM a special event... </div>
  • Is the screening going to happen? <br><br>I'm personally happy to stay late for the screening, though I can imagine some people can't stay that late.<br><br>I will be brief with the <span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #222222; font-size: small;">"Totally Mathematically </span></span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Indisputable Algorithm for Guaranteed Win (with color enhanced </span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">graphs)".<br><br>I'm busy with the poster. (or at least Bevis is)<br></span>
  • Actually I like this idea of making the screening of IGTM a more "special" event. This is what I have in mind. <div><span style="font-size: 10pt; "><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 10pt; ">We open the screening up to the public, I'm thinking inviting computer clubs from schools, Com Sci/Arts students from the local Universities/Colleges. Maybe have some Local devs also give a brief talk (like "Hi we're QCF, here is our game go play it" )?  We could also maybe get NAG and Dev.Mag to come and report on it?</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 10pt; "><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 10pt; ">This serves a few purposes </span></div><div><br></div><div>a) We increase local knowledge of makegames (plus the association if it is formed)</div><div>b) Gives local devs some exposure in our own markets</div><div>c) Gives the public an opportunity to ask questions/interact with local devs ?</div><div><br></div><div>Thoughts ?</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
  • Would showing IGTM at the Labia or some other, more public venue even be legal (assuming the source is merely a DVD licensed only for private use)?<br><br>Unless someone has a private home cinema that can seat dozens of people, a conference room at the MS Offices may be the best that we can get away with, and the sound there unfortunately sucks.<br><br>To be honest though, IGTM doesn't quite interest me enough to warrant the trek to Pinelands.<br>
  • If enough people are interested in the public screening we can possibly organise an official one (<a href="http://www.indiegamethemovie.com/screenings/">check it out</a>). <div><br></div><div><br></div>
  • We could also maybe use UCT to organise a screening (in one of the lecture rooms maybe?)<div><br></div><div>My count puts it at four for Talks, three for IGTM. So talks it is then? Unless we get some more votes...</div>

POSTER!!!<br><br><img src="http://www.blackshipsfillthesky.com/images/poster_CommunityMeetup.jpg"><br>If the details here are wrong please let me know. I can take out the Indie Games Movie poster. Ruan and Peter let me know if you are not showing your awesome games.<br>

Hey! How come your talk gets to keep its super-long wordy title and mine gets truncated? :'(<br>
  • Soz!! Fixed now! :P<br>
  • So is the screening happening or not?
  • So are we going to be staying afterwards for IGTM and those that don't want to see it can go home? That would make sense, actually.<br><br>Also totally keen on seeing if we can organise the Labia/UCT showing for more regular types, we'd have to go into massive hype mode for that though. Would suggest us dev peoples see it beforehand to see if you think it should be mega-hyped or not ;)<br>
  • I'm happy for screening to happen post talk
  • Damn, looks like I need to rethink my life...<div><br></div><div>:P</div>
  • Personally I'd vote for separate screening for IGTM. It's the kind of
thing I want my friends/girlfriend to see as well - to that end a
special screening at a Labia would work well. Though I have already seen
the movie so I might be biased in this regard, unlike the others who
are chomping at the bit to see the movie. <br><br>Willing to volunteer
services trying to get the labia / IGTM people on board. Especially if I
can say I'm doing it on behalf of an "association". Seems to me that's
exactly the type of thing they would go for.
  • I've made a game that's playable, that could be cool to see people play at the meetup and give crit if there's enough time. <br>Also changing my vote from screening to separate event for screening.<br>
  • Do you think you guys could take a stab at recording the session? (I know I didnt record the last JHB session like a complete noob) It would be nice if we could do some more sharing between the two venues.<br>
  • @Pomb Please do bring your game! that's what the meetups are all about imo :)
  • I'll check with some of the lecturers at UCT to see if we can host it there. I'm sure it would be fine but if it were to be screened in term time (getting more students to come watch) we would probably need to book pretty far in advance... Thoughts?<br>

    <br>
  • I hope they do the screening last. pretty please do all the other stuff first.
  • @terencej: That would make the most sense, yes ;)<br><br>The way things are looking now I'm assuming that IGTM will only appear if enough people want to see it and are cool with staying after the talks.<br>
  • Ok, this is tonight everyone! Pretty much 2 hours to go :)<br><br>Someone remind me to take pictures so that we can have a report-back in this thread and make people who needed to rethink their lives completely jealous.<br>
  • I'm jealous just because I currently reside in JHB :<
  • <font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">Thanks for all the ideas that were given tonight guys, I'm definitely going to attempt implementing some, if not all of them!</font><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2"><br></font></div>
  • This meet was great. Very exciting and inspiring
