Some more purdy purdy (in game screenshots this time)
-
Thanks man! I'm really amazed how easy it was to do!

So following @Elyaradine's prodding, I decided to work on my shader a bit more. Now it's got a shoreline, better normal mapping of the land areas, mix of plantlife and rock on the land areas, underwater areas are better lit and fade to deep blue …

Elyaradine;24820" said:And Unreal's strong! The only thing that puts me off personally is that I've gotten quite used to using C#, maybe python, and having to come to grips with something like UnrealScript or C++ kind of puts me off. In terms of art…

Tuism;24793" said:OMG what, NODE BASED SHADERS!?!? So, you can what, drag and drop? Move things around? I want to hear more about THAT!! :D Check this video out: I cant recommend the Unreal Engine enough, it's an awesome, industry-strength syste…

Thanks! Originally I wasnt even going to have rock coming out of the water, but I thought it would be a cool excercise, so I havent explored shorelines fully, but I'll give it a try tonight and see if it looks any better!
-
That would seem a wise course of action! You could also put the mask into the alpha channel of one of your existing textures for the sake of performance.

Denzil;24721" said:How do you make the texture seamless? Do you you copy and mirror it into 4 quadrants? Good job by the way A neat trick in Photoshop is to go into Filters -> Other -> Offset and then offset the texture by 50% in X and Y. Tha…

Elyaradine;24773" said:Yeah, but I do that at work all the time, and I wanted to learn something new. :P Well in that case, raycast away! :P But I agree, Next Shader!

Very nice!! Pity you didnt get the caustics working in the end... Maybe you should have just faked it with a projected decal ;)

As far as I can see, all the present categories are quite useful EXCEPT for Questions and Answers. I think you should scrap that particular category, and then add some more. I think it would be super helpful to have a Game Maker category, and a Uni…

I've been pottering around with UE4 for the last couple months. I ambitiously (stupidly) decided to try make a MOAB type game (like Dota) so I've been slowly getting my head around the C++ code that comes with the Strategy Game example. But man, it'…

I dont want to discourage anyone out of this, but the last I heard of Shosholoza Meyl were disgusted people phoning into 702 to complain about how terrible the conditions were on the trains. I wouldnt recommend them :/ Have a look at their Hello Pe…

I'd be up for that

Ah yes, Aaron's A* library is awesome! I used it for Reservoir, albeit using the waypoint node based navigation system because I'm strange like that.
-
Numba Wan!
-
I could maybe drop by with my craptop, not sure if it'll even run unity, but hey restrictions make creativity!
-
Looks like I'm going to have to drop out of this one.
-
In tentatively - it is my birthday after all :P

Tuism;22292" said:Thanks dude! And thanks for your assist, I'm sorry I distracted you from tower defence in London XD Haha no worries, you were onto something with the climbing on walls mechanic! Watch this space!
-
Awesome work @Tuism! It turned out quite interesting!
-
When I ran into @Tuism this morning he said he might pop around tonight. Personally I'm only going to be there tomorrow mid-morning.
-
Very cool presentation! Watching Alexander Bruce's GDC talk was a big sobering moment and I think you hit the nail on the head about success != happiness.
-
I really enjoyed that. I remember when Dislekcia posted about Antichamber, I was like "meh another lucky indie gaming success". Now I know what went into that success, I'm a lot less quick to judge these things at face value.

What engine are you using wizardofid? Something home built?

Some things I've noticed: * I agree with Tuism, the inaccessible tiles should be dark, while the tiles which will activate when you step on them should be the ones to glow! Instead of having inaccessible fire tiles be literally burning - which also…

This is ridiculously clever! Now I just need some art talent :P
-
Damn! That looks awesome! I wish I had your talents when I was making my sewer game! I made a little game where an evil bot chases you around a sewer - check it out - it would be pretty cool to have the drone chasing around your environments!
-
Check out the awesome stuff people are doing with the Cryengine. Hope that some of them reach the light of day soon!
-
This is pretty freakin cool! I'll be trying it out shortly.
-
I have two words for this guy.... Source Control! A pretty cool summary though!
-
Thanks @AlphaSheep - it looks like the bloody LWJGL devs forgot to check for a null display device string, but also that the OpenGL context didnt come through from the driver :/ I've compiled it on 1.6.0 so your Java version is perfect, and it seem…

Anyone else tried it yet? Are those on Macs/Linux having too much of a barrier to entry?
-
Haha thanks for the feedback! So are the stop cards really broken or do we just need to increase the ratio of stop to cure cards? So you're almost guaranteed to run into a cure at some stage. An economy... I think I like that idea. How would it w…

Okay playable version is up. http://www.nitrogenlab.com/files/fourtowers/fourtowers.zip (12mb) It's my first attempt at Java distribution, it's got a windows exe which works okay, the rest of you will have to run java -jar "fourtowers.jar" from the…

I would *really* like a user switchable theme selection thingy. That way we can have multiple themes (light, dark, iPixelPierre's Techicolor Dreamcoat™) etc. I'm also of the dark/low contrast persuasion! I'll definitely style a dark version of the …

Windows 3.1? Huh, are we seeing the same forums? Are you talking about the mobile view or something? If you think it's bad now, you should have seen it before I redid it! It was a major effort to get to something that (mostly) everyone was happy …

I don't mind R200 a year for a good cause.

Me four.

My favourite roguelike would probably be the first one I ever played - Angband. I modded all the sounds and installed a graphics set for it and everything (no comments from you text-only diehards!) I must say Teleglitch looks the business though!

JHB Jam: So where exactly in the Microsoft building should we meet? The usual MGSA meetup auditorium?
-
Aw man, a *little* more warning would be appreciated next time!
-
Yeah I saw it as a rehash of the 2012 LD mechanic, but I went from jaded to really impressed with the last demonstration in his video. I really enjoyed that setup and reward :)
-
Is there still going to be judging on this compo?
-
Haha, that was pretty cool! The only thing I'd add to all of the above is that the desert scene is a bit bland and arbitrary. Why am I here? and how come there's something interesting exactly at this spot and nowhere else in this endless plain? Som…

I'm in for the JHB one... So do we have to clear out at 11pm and then come back in the morning?
