Oh devs, whatever will we do without actual devs :) So, what, are we also looking for PS3 controllers now? Cos I have, but dunno how they'll be secured since they're just USB cables...
-
Motion in joy. I used it. It wasn't easy, but I did get PS3 controllers to work for my PC. Then I plugged in @Fengol's 360 controller to test, and I went through hell to uninstall motioninjoy drivers before the 360 PLUG AND PLAY controller worked. …

Yeah actually, you could say that he "is" successful now, but if I were him I wouldn't care if I "will be" successful while I was basically completely unhappy. If my measure of my success is whether my work will fetch millions that will never enric…

I know my game needs analog stick, so it actually needs the Xbox controller. I have a controller that's not analogue, I'll bring it and see whose game needs it. But seriously, how many do we need? It's good to know...
-
Wait, is it always one wireless receiver to one controller, or are they able to receive more than one at a time?
-
How many do you need? I can try look for some.
-
If I make a game in the next two weeks then I'm definitely going for this. This reminds me of an important question: what is a realistic timeframe to get your game complete to get it to market by end of the month? Let's say for these examples: 1. Hu…

I have @Fengol's wireless controller, should I bring that and we can try to secure it? Or keep an eye on it? Isn't the lack of controllers a bit of a big deal? XD
-
@Gazza_N after I've thought of that before, but I thought it wasn't the best thing cos I want to keep the most commonly used controls the easiest to access, and to me the stick clicker was always pretty unwieldy to use. I will probably try that out …

Yeah, a while ago I realized that our forum looked exactly like a million others. Guess it's called vanilla for a reason :p but I think it's not a big biggie for now.
-
Hehehe spur :p

Heyyyyy! Welcome! That Shark Attack looks pretty cool, I dig it :D Wonder if you had any animal rights activists dig at you guys :) That 40 000 player base for Greed City is interesting! I'm personally not on WP8, and I guess that's the story pret…

The challenge is this: Finish a game — Take it to market — Earn $1 This sounds like such an awesome idea. I think I'm gonna do something here. We all have wondered how the whole going to market thing works, and often it's too soon to even think ab…

To be honest I was trying to not be the cynic I am with everything I say, but yes, I thought as much :3 blatant attempt at driving traffic. If he really wanted to engage, there's a whole forum here.

... I do not. Gah.

Saturday, I wanna get into rAge as early as I can (8/9, I don't mind) to avoid rush and help with whatever I can, is there any way I can get in not through the usual queue?
-
Wouldn't that actually take longer to do than the previous style? It seems more detailed...

Update! THIS IS IT BEFORE RAGE! Not gonna mess with things unless there are badass crashes!! Added, for your pleasure (3 Oct 2013): > Tweaks to the title screen. > A new controls screen. > A brand new never-heard-before title track tit…

Oh and @Karuji, I was going to allow walking through the centre line, but there was just one thing that made it all to meh... You can go to the other side and pick up blocks and just walk them up to the tower on the other side and kill them by build…
-
Well, not essentially entirely wrong. You just have to recognise that you're not making a game, you're making an engine. And if your engine is useful, people here will use it. If it's not, well, then it's not, and you'd have learned why it's not. …

Oh rad :) cool style :) after some staring I figured out those are supposed to be portals, right? But they don't really read like portals, but electric cactus or something :P That's cos I think the background is dark and you got a light outline with…
-
So I just came back from the Battlefield guy (Daniel Matros, just for the record I didn't forget his name :P)'s talk, and I must say, what he said pretty much confirms what we've been chatting about. Indie and AAA are practically polar opposite ends…

Congratzylations! :D Seeing all the happiness around it makes me happy :D

Hunh, I play DDR tons... Played, and I've never thought anything of the colour of the arrows. It was always the position for me. I read the game like I read text, driving my body like a punch card drives a computer. ... Too much information? :P
-
AND while we're on the topic, some of the background black stuff is solid and some aren't. Some black things you can fly through and some you can't. That can create inconsistent player expectations and lead to frustrations.
-
I really think speeding them up will just lead to players being more frustrated about dodging them. Really, make them easy to read. I BET a million bucks not 50% of people who play will even have noticed what you're talking about with the black core…
-
I keep telling them to unify the bullet colours. Your attacks = one colour. Things you wanna dodge = one colour, things you wanna collect = one colour. I keep saying that. Over and over :P
-
I think that the top-down is something people do when they're one person. You have this idea, and you brood on it forever, until you think it's the best thing ever, all simulated out in your head. Then you gotta birth that idea out. This happens mo…
-
Screw that, I want everyone to be playing the games :D And if you're not playing you should be watching people play :D
-
By the way what's happening with the recorded Amaze talks? :P (I feel like such a nag :( )
-
MUCH better logo :P I wish I had that earlier to put on the flyer :)
-
It's ok, I can middle click as well as anyone else XD Clearly I'm in the minority here XD
-
I personally prefer to open all links in new window, it's my expected behavior. Sure I can do it manually but when I don't remember to, having to click back and the page has to reload... Is irritating.
-
X-ing :) first I thought it would be during work hours agains, then realized it's not, kudos :)
-
+1 existing test flight user :) I'm also keen to get my own stuff on there sometime :)

First of all, AN UPDATE! :D Download the latest version: http://www.thesteventu.com/share/bear_chuck/Bear_Chuck_v_latest.zip 1 Octoboer 2013 changes: > Overhauled the gamepad controls - the aim is now no longer absolute according to the positi…

Also, a reason why playing Game Dev Story is satisfying. At all :)

I think one of the things he's advocating is that we shouldn't be trapped by this idea we need "flexibility". We need tools to do what we need to do. His tool that he made the platformer with, he couldn't make the leaf animation with, and vice versa…
-
@hermantulleken I totally agree that making something like that is non-trivial. And yes I see that he's using java and the likes, which is nowhere near the... Bulk? I don't know how to put it - the complexity of the Compiled languages. Can it be don…

The closest thing I have to a dev companion spirit animal at the moment:

I'm only 30 minutes in and I'm flabbergasted at the amazingness. Thanks for sharing! Now I have a question - is this a principle in tool building, to facilitate the creative process, or is it a tool that we have access to? Because I know for a fact…

Why exactly are people needing to get onto fragments of the xBox market? Why isn't it just one market?
-
The forum helps, but nothing is better than having someone to actually talk to when you're stuck. That's why teams are needed... man, which is a tough one for some of us :P
-
What we want to have going is for everyone who has games to set theirs up and rope people around to play. So of course you can bring your game! :D
-
Hey guys! Tweaking stuff for rAge... For those who've tried the gamepad controls, (and if you haven't and can please give it a try!) I want to ask how you found it, because I want to implement a better control scheme, here are options: 1. PIcking …

Yaaaaaaay I was just about to post it here and got ninja'd :) Well done guys :)
-
Fair enough, there's not always gonna be the best people in the best teams making the best decisions even in AAA. Though my point was that the best scenarios and the best case for top-down approaches are usually ones built from a lot of bottom-up e…
-
A minor update - fixed some controller bugs that existed for gamepad vs gamepad play, that's all. Am working on a few other things like the powers... Dunno how far I'll get before rAge but it's stable now :) More or less :) http://www.thesteventu.c…

Even the top-down approach is built upon MANY MANY MANY layers of bottom up - previous games, the team who've built tons of games bottom-up, etc. Bottom-up generates experience, Top-down only really works if you've (you as in the whole entire team, …
