We Jozeez totally need to do this too! :D

If there's nothing against this, I might just bring a sleeping bag and nap there, I'll endeavour to smell my very best (honestly though I don't get the lived-in smell) :) Anyone share that thought?

This looks mad amazing, makes me so happy to be part of this awesomeness :')

Remember my chess with cards experiment? :) From my doing that my research revealed like a BAZILLION chess variants already, so it might be helpful (or completely not) to have a look at existing variants :)

NETRUNNERNETRUNNERNETRUNNER :) When people talk about Netrunner they can get overly fanboysy, so I'm going to try and avoid that. What's good about Netrunner is: 1. Asymmetrical play - two sides plays differently 2. No random boosters - no rarity,…

I'm fairly torn on this point :) I used to love sweeping epics. Final Fantasy 6 was easily my favourite game EVER. Easily. BUT I went back to it on PS3 and couldn't stand the slow-as-snails-on-a-diet-of-molasses pacing. I had forgotten that I played…

Oh yes that's an interesting version of the solve - the principle of the onlive thing is for the processing to take place remotely and people play the game via streaming. So it's dependant on the bandwidth and latency, yes, but that's a pretty promi…

Very cool idea! I don't even know the technical wizardry needed for something like this, games are far more complex in scope than screen resolutions... a video is high def because it's got a sequence of larger resolution images, scaling that down is…

I've experience with this - you can just email Yoyo with your steam purchase and they'll send through your upgrade details - happened to me before :) It's a bit of a pain but overall the results are the same.

Wow! Anatomy drawing amazeballs! Thanks so much! :D I've never studied much of anatomy before, most of what I do with it is by eye and by intuition, so I really appreciate the help :D What if the chest were facing more towards the "down" direction …

Missing this :(

I like it! Works well for the intended audience :) I would make the default move 3 spaces so that the reward for gambling is above average (right now there's only really incentive to try for a 5/6 if you're behind maybe, strategically speaking). But…

This super important starting bible of MakeGamesSA. We've all read it, and it is an important first insight into all of this: http://makegamessa.com/discussion/749/read-first-the-makegamessa-faq#Item_1

I would actually say that dual-booting would get you the best performance out of the two options, I'd go with that if I was using my own mac... I'm using the company's and so don't really have an option.

I run Parallels on my Mac and it runs even Unity fine, so... Go that route? Stick to Studio. Vlambeer makes games in GM8. But they're pro programmers. One of them translates the GM code into code for other consoles etc, so I bet they can do things …

Game Maker is great, it's a fantastic learning tool and accelerates the understanding of concepts and how to do things. The only problem for me for Game Maker is production. Getting things into the web player, for example, isn't easy, especially si…

Gm7... How... Wizardry... I'd say recreate it if you feel like it was fun - that it was well received is certainly a big plus, and you'll have much more joy in 3D with Unity. You may even just make better stuff than what you had :) Easier! :)

One way is to get people to compete against each other - Spelunky does that with their Daily Challenge where there's a random seed that everyone gets to play on a given day, and everyone logs their score against that seed. Then there are achievemen…

I feel there's two things that are in tension when thinking about developing for Wii U: Unique platform-specific game idea/mechanic Idea/mechanics that works well across multiple platforms. Can you guarantee the former well enough that it outweig…

Hey guys, @LexAquillia's week's (in his own words) gone to shit, so we need to courier the documents down to him (if not in CT etc). The address: 26 Wesley Street, Claremont, Cape Town 7708 Before Tuesday please! I'm going to send mine off ASAP. I…

This looks super cool, what a nice transition taken from the digital space into the real! I would love to give it a shot! I *think* I especially like that they've kept the experience cryptic in their materials :)

Holy cow. Never have I dived first for consoles and never will I. PS3 is serving me really well at the mo still :) And I have games FOREVER on Steam still, soooooo :)

While all those theories sound quite interesting, they feel to me like methods of programming, with the possibilities of changing into tools of programming. It would be interesting if they were brought up when the original topic was discussed, but a…

I will give some arbitrary examples. Let's say we say feminist programming is more to do with colours. Then someone will say who says women are more about colours - argument ensues. Let's say we say feminist programming is more to do with emotions.…

Oh trust me I'm doing that. I'm having hell with Unity Physics. I've had 6 sets of ways of doing Bear Chuck. None of them has worked out so far. Trying some more. Maybe I'll take a break from that and jump back onto Rocketto. At least that has a mor…

Let's be honest here, this is such a loaded concept, anything you say "feminist" could be could be construed as discrimination and stereotyping. Programming is a set of logical rules laid out in syntax for processors or people (in the case of table…

Dat expensive web-build plugin. Yeah dem basterds >:s that it doesn't work 100% is even worse.
-
@Karuji do you mean Unity or GMS? I've (knock on wood hold thumbs omg plzdon'tfuckup) thus far not had problems with Unity implementation, but of course I'm pretty shallow in the pool yet...
-
My last experiences with GMS: 1. Mysterious looping music in-game where no code existed to call such music. 2. Web build doesn't work when executable worked. I'm not a full-on dev so I was no good debugging stuff that are supposed to work but doesn…

Everyone's gotta take every view to an extreme and everyone thinks that the other person means the extreme that they're not standing on :) I think we all dislike clones, and I think we all know what's cloning and what's a synthesis of ideas. Even …

Oh, then maybe Wits is a better venue. As much as I'm not keen to not sleep, having a deadline time before the deadline is kinda meh. That said, what time's the curfew and when do they open? Maybe it's great to actually force sleep. For our own sake…

MS office +1 :)

I need to be a better Asian. Time to duckface.

Who's that guy with the pink bow on his head?

When you guys talk about GC.collect, is it literally that, and does that literally make Unity do a memory check and clear out unused garbage data in memory? That's the gist of what I'm understanding from this reading. Or shouldn't I worry about thi…

We need to talk about that channel more. Can I ask that when the talks become available on the channel that we either update a Youtube Channel thread or the thread of the respective meetup? I was surprised to see some of the talks I didn't know we h…

Scrolling triangles/arrows? Does that change the way they're rendered? Right now I don't really care too much what they look like, It's really more about getting that line without lag. Line renderer - will look into it. The way I'm doing it now (it…

I think there's possibly a couple of very simple ways to look at it: 1) Have you openly talked about the idea that was "inspired" by the other person? 2) To that person who inspired you? 2) If you haven't, why not? 3) Do you feel like you're copyin…

@hermantulleken yes! Can I draw particles? I don't know how to, I've been looking, but I haven't found how to spawn a particle at location xyz. All I can find are emitters. I haven't figured out trails yet, will give it a look, but yeah I think I w…

Thanks for the link! I agree, that it would be better than creating objects for each shot, but I was wondering if there wasn't a way to draw the sprite without GameObjects? That would save even more cycles, would it not? (and be easier to code, if …
-
@edg3 yeah that was the one solution I did think of, but I was wondering if there weren't easier ways than that, cos that method would mean having to individually name them and assign them into an array and and and, when it would be so much easier i…

Thanks for trying it out! :D Holy heck, I wonder what happened, I haven't ever seen that before, on two computers... Hope other people can confirm/deny it as a bug! Were there any performance issues, since you're talking about aging laptop. My com…

My dudes now have full collider and rigidbody2D. If I remove the colliders they don't collide - it seems rigidbodies need colliders to affect physics - that's since I'm no longer trying to write my own physics - Unity is handling colliding and landi…

TL;DR: Bear Chuck is being ported to Unity, I have a toy prototype of it here: >>> Click here to go to web build

@tbulford It's a prototype demonstrating a bug :P I've done a workaround and reverted to fit Unity physics instead of my own so the problem can be... considered irrelevant :P @fanieG thanks for your enthusiasm, I may just have to call it something …

PM sent, I've yet to level up but you have my sword :)

Wow that's magical, thanks for sharing! :)

Ah thanks @hermantulleken, it was a silly permissions thing. I need to remember that for the future... It's fixed and accessible! (I'm busy trying to rework my model to fit Unity's physics. Maybe that's what I need to do, stop working out "simple s…

Hi guys, I know I'm bombarding these questions but I've been stuck on the same thing for like days and I can't figure it out nor does any research help :( I'm using 2D physics, I have GameObjects that I want to detect when they overlap other GameOb…

False alarm! Solved! Turns out I had a nested GameObject with a collider that I was using for something else that was eating the collision. Still, thanks everyone :) Arrrrrgh >_< Halp >_< I have gameObjects, which are all different …
