I've been really curious about Pico-8, my main exposure to it has been the many fantastic Ludum Dare games - I'm not sure if PICO-8 makes good jam games or jam games are well-suited to it - either way I've not actually dived into learning a new lang…

First wednesday of the month in joburg is which meetup? The monthly makegamessa meetup is every 2nd tuesday of the month at Bryanston Microsoft. I haven't seen any wednesday ones posted here yet?

Those coming, see ya'll tonight! :) I'll have a plank :)

Step forward in helping hopelessly addicted players out and giving them a better chance to take breaks and not be playing beyond 6 hours straight. Having that mechanism is better than none, and we can all say "I would never quit if I saw that, I'd j…
-
I don't think anyone can claim that 100% of people who sees a note like this will NOT take a break. And I think the way in which this was done, humorously and not like some generic PSA, is now likely to get people to take that break. Is it perfect? …

This was just one example where a game has done something to advocate for the player and not for something else. I really only raised this cos it's an interesting point of view and I think a good line of thinking and to just chat about it. There ar…

There wasn't an original article, it was just an image. And we can deduce some things from this - it's a mobile game. And if someone actually played 6 hours on a mobile game, they've held their focus on a little phone screen for 6 hours. And yeah th…

Actually, by political I don't mean "people who are in politics", I meant political as in things that matter to real things. Things that aren't just entertainment. Like racial representation, is one thing. Politics isn't just about government and ta…

@Chippit thanks for the offer! (What's the new address?) I'll try and make the drive to visit the new fort at some point :) Would do me a world of good...!!!
-
In the end, your impact is going to have a much bigger effect than your intention. Your goals don't matter to people who can't read your mind (everyone in the world ever). So this kind of stuff needs to be either handled super delicately or not at a…
-
@dislekcia I've been trying to get your solution to work but it doesn't really seem to, it feels like it comes out the same way when I tried to do Quaternion.RotateTowards... I tried to strip back and just use your solution up to this point without …

@Leslie can't use parenting and stuff because that messes with physics. I'm using physics to simulate everything. Also it's in 3D so XYZ axis must all be considered. @Blackson I know the target's physical location in space that I want to rotate tow…

The point though is really that the depiction of the dude is both unflattering AND looks like a racial stereotype rather than a caricature. The combination of both makes it high potential to be a powerderkeg. I would say just sidestep it all and not…

If it wasn't clear, I haven't done anything yet because I don't know how to get that angle turning in 3D away from a forward :/
-
Man, angles are HARD to understand. Okay let me try my best to explain what I want: - I have three points. In VR. So there's the head point, and the two hand points. - The head is pointing where the head is pointing. The hands are where the hands …
-
I looked at Quaterion.SetFromToRotation and I'm not sure how to work it - it says it "Creates a rotation which rotates from fromDirection to toDirection." - but a quaternion is one single representation of rotation in space, how is it representing b…
-
@elyaradine So I plugged this in and it does work but not exactly... It gets the angle from the up/down axis to the object, but without regarding the left-right and forward axis - so if the object is off from the blue plane (in my diagram not in Un…

RIGHT DOH >_< Will report back soon >_

@elyaradone what's "vector" in that equation? Vector3 vector = objB.transform.position - objA.transform.position; float angle = Mathf.Acos(Vector3.Dot(vector, Vector3.down) / vector.magnitude);
-
I'll test, but on a simple way to do it, I tried Vector3.AngleBetween but for reasons unknown I can't get it to work. Weirdly I give the function transform.positions and the error tells me it cannot explicitly convert between float and Vector3. And …

Ooooooh funcy :D So it was an expectations thing. I wasn't expecting them to do that so when they did that it was very frustrating, and felt random. Personally I'm not a fan of RTSs, but not having units to control might convince me otherwise :) (…
-
I feel like the difficulty is in randomness or perceived randomness, when I feel like "okay I've got them", a few of them ignore everything and walk through and eats pylon and everything's dead. It's possible that the optimal/only way to win is to b…

Gave it a play: 1. Looks GREAT. Dunno what you're talking about the presentation is pretty amazing, from the music to the aliens scuttling to the buildings etc. Looks polished. 2. The tutorial was confusing at first. I couldn't explicitly draw the…

A quick google only shows that Microgaming is a company in the UK that does slots games. Other than that I don't see any actual definitions. What say the people?
-
(the fb event link is wrong :P)
-
Oh I didn't even see that there was a shop, I saw light blocks and one was for healing and I just went down :p I do think though the thing is that you want at least some subtle lighting cues for general feel of the game. I found that with Subnautic…

I like this IN PRINCIPLE :) - Really pretty, when I can see things. - The terrain deformation is fun. - It's a prettier minecraft? What is the vision for this? Survival? Like, how might this avoid being compared to minecraft and so many other survi…

Hi, this is now happening in joburg, demand in pta was too low. The next one will on the 3rd Tuesday of February.

Yay! Anything to play yet? :)

Not sure what you mean by "problem", if an actual problem arose or if I personally had a problem with it, either way I can't speak to that as I was never involved in organising in CT. I just *do* know the scene in Joburg.

dammit;53252" said:Now, we just need a CPT organiser... any volunteers? Adone, Danny and Francois were talking about this on Twitter. I don't remember their forum handles lol :p

Thanks for sorting that out, the single venue at Microsoft had always been traditionally where everyone hung out together for many years already, it would be great to see students from all different institutions come along too.
-
@dark_seth - yes I took a look at your game and that's exactly what I've been looking for!!! Any assistance in getting that set up would be MUCH MUCH MUCH appreciated!!!!
-
Is it not possible to force/default players to lowest detail settings and/or resolutions? I think that worked for even my ancient macbook :p
-
Joburg's usual GGJ site at Microsoft Joburg is in: Jam site page: edit: xxxx pending xxxx Please sign up as a jammer if you'd like to join us here!
-
PREACH! Yeah it's pretty important to present your game to people, even with minimal effort. It's actually just plain disrespectful to drop things without any form of presentation. Respect other people's time, give them a quick, attractive run down.
-
It's so pretty :D Edit: Okay now for proper feedback :) - First... I had to go to lowest resolution, lowest details and windowed mode to play without it being a slideshow but I guess that's just... My Mac :P - The craft handling feels like it's no…
-
Yeah I usually push for a venue but not this time. I was very sad when I saw the dates overlapped, but ah well not much I can do about that! @Timothy if you are keen to please try and get people together to jam! It's really the best way to!
-
Thorsten said he's getting it done.....
-
Well I guess only playtesting will tell. I can't playtest cos I don't have a rift or vive yet :P Soooooo I'm all in on the Quest, soon. SOON :P

Something bugs me about sight-based aiming and shooting, it feels unsatisfying. If I use my sight to do lock-ons and get target info or such it might be fine, but actually shooting exactly ahead of where you're looking feels "too easy", just staring…
-
Hi there, welcome to our community :) Are you from SA? And are you looking for feedback for your game?
-
Well, it looks fine, it works, but to me this is more presentation work rather than game design, and if you don't have game design first, presentation doesn't have all that much function... What's the game design? Action? Turn based? Perhaps build…

The AR element is not part of the gameplay but it shows off a video of the move depicted on the card, so people can learn the move. It was pretty fun. I didn't get a good photo of the feature, here a bad photo :)

- I think the open world thing is good but the player needs something to manage being lost and not knowing where to go. - The press 'i' thing I guess shouldn't be something you have to just memorise and you wouldn't know at all if you missed that si…
