Infographics! So awesome! ... And the spammer of the site award goes to... >_< Could we game this by attempting to change the shape of any of these graphs? Like for example try to make the posts per day graph flatter by posting more on weeke…

Back on topic, a company has shown interest in publishing Dubai, don't wanna jinx it (though I don't believe in jinxing things) so won't go into details, but that's pretty exciting :) Over the weekend had a playtest that revealed on cool trick to i…

Congrats! :) Good to see a game go from zero to publisher invite! The presentation is top notch, so well done on that :) (by zero I mean as in haven't been posted on BGG and so no previous exposure, from what I know anyway! Don't usually see boardga…

Oh rats, I should have shared it, it was on BGG, I subscribe to the design contest subforum... There's another one for a bit later, the KBG (Korean) competition (I entered this one with Cartel previously). Interested?
-
Two things! 1. I entered Dubai into Cardboard Edison's award for unpublished games, and an entry video was a requirement... So here's a video of me sounding very awkward explaining Dubai's mechanics: 2. Revamped the rules to be easier to digest…

I really like the thought of this! The same applies to smartphones too! I think more than artists, who are really small in number in SA, corporates and design studios should theoretically have an even bigger obsoletion rate. I think the old hardwa…

@electrov 1) you've misspelt her nickname. 2) I'm really not sure what you're getting at here, but your comparison is going to get some hate. Women != aliens. They're literally about 50% of the population, give or take. Women != fenced off. They're…

I see. Yeah I can see that kind of sexism happening. Sometimes when I see new girls at events I often wonder why they're here. And of course catching myself thinking that way means I get to consciously steer myself away from that. The problem can o…
-
@damousey sorry to hear that... I really wonder, do only women who are assumed an artist feel dismissed? I have to be honest that sometimes I see some people (male) and I also assume them to be artists. I myself am an artist (more so than developer,…

@farsicon this is literally what's in the article: And women, as hard as it can be, flip a sexist comment or question around on itself. Think of what you could say in response to sexist comments on your way to industry events or parties so you’re pr…

@Crash that's not what he's saying, he's saying you're better off going to GDC without bothering with winning this GameJolt thing. The GameJolt thing only gives you a ticket to see the expo - which excludes access all the talks and workshops that ar…
-
The ticket to GDC is only one part of the cost for us, unfortunately. Flight and accommodation and food adds up. A lot. It was a maddeningly fantastic experience though. Really precious.

Oh man, straight after #GGJ? Don't know if I have the strength for another big jam. Also had plans too. Let's see what the theme is :)
-
@Crash would LOVE to see the photos :) It was a lot of fun :)

Haven't seen any weird seams with this at all, no. When it goes wrong (was running the project in Unity editor on a Windows machine, no other variable has changed as far as I can tell) it looks right in the editor view, but in game view it just look…
-
... Omg how did I not try that. I'm sure @UberGeoff did (It was on his machine that there was that problem). Lemme ping him about it.
-
Oh by the way, is there anything about this shader that could bug out between windows and osx machines? We put this project on a windows computer and it looked fine in editor view, but on game view it seemed that the shader wasn't working at all, re…
-
Yeah generating our own mesh would allow that but it also wouldn't have all the functions of terrains we wanted and was already available. Anyway, on this, @elyaradine was a mythical unicorn machine and wrote a shader for us that allowed the exact …

A huge thanks to @Karuji for organising! Don't listen to him, it was superbly well organised, his hounding people to upload stuff on time really helped. Shannon was basically me three years ago, where I had 2 other dudes jamming with me while I did…

1. I think it's not fun to run into a wall to capture it, it encourages un-fun behaviour - instead of running along capturing stuff you're now having to take time to run into a wall (even if you take the drag out) instead of focusing on the fun bits…

Watching the video (a bit of the old one and then the new one), here I go with some stream-of-consciousness: 1. The roll-over-to-colour thing made sense. Except! Why were some of the walls being coloured and some walls not? If the walls get coloure…

Yeah I saw that Nick, apparently we can't use paid stuff because this should be completely open-source. (Oh this is ggj) @Denzil I'm on OSX, so... It should be platform independent? But I guess I really don't know what I'm talking about :/
-
So Ahmed said basically that whether a model is smooth shaded or flat shaded is dependent on the model, and nothing you do in the shader would be able to fix that :/ The GLSL shader... I have no idea what it does, it just gives me the unity error p…
-
The thing is I'm not coding this myself, and we've already gone down the route of using terrains, if we can get away with still using Unity terrain that would be the best, because otherwise we'd have to write a whole custom terrain thing ourselves..…
-
EDIT: Nevermind the error! I got it working, I copied some html with the code, dumb me... but it doesn't do flat shading... It does somewhat flat but not really: Yes, I've read in places that generating your own mesh terrain is the way to go, bu…

Thanks for the headsup on the sale :) It's about time I got tabletop sim to make playtesting just one step easier than before :) The game looks cool, would love to see how the TGC cards come out :) (also reception! Why isn't it on BGG yet???)

The meetups are always the same: 2nd tuesday of each month (the next one is on the 9th indeed) at the Microsoft head office on William Nicol, starts at around 6:30, although I always try to get there earlier, around 5:30 for food (thanks Microsoft)…

We're working on a homepage that takes this into consideration... It's coming....... (I know I know, it's been said for a while now) http://makegamessa.com/discussion/3248/mgsa-website/p2

I think you've misunderstood what everyone has said... What's being said here is you shouldn't jump into "marketing" mode, you should show your game to people first. All kinds of people, and this community of people is a great place to start doing …

Have you shown people your game yet? Have you received overwhelming positive response from people who don't know you at all? Those are the first steps to the next steps after development... DURING development! Game dev, especially marketing, isn't …

They really should teach "The Helvetica Scenario" more :)

Kudos! I really like the reality that's been considered around this, I agree that having an independent body will clarify things for people. For example the fact that the membership fees were not mandatory for all was not immediate obvious for some.…

Actually, if you want a AAA company to invest in you, you have to be already successful. Minecraft didn't get picked up when nobody knew about it. Minecraft didn't get successful off the back of AAA quality anything. It got successful because... Wel…

At this point in time I would be happy with any actual information regarding what's going on with the MGSA as a whole... - What's the state of play with the AGM voting that hasn't been wrapped yet? - What are the things that need doing, and who's d…

So there are many game companies in the world. A lot of them in the US, a lot of them in France, etc. The country doesn't define the company. Their output/games do. I don't see the point of mandating that "ALL SOUTH AFRICAN GAME DEVS FORM ONE BIG C…

Thanks you guys for playing and giving feedback! Really appreciate it! Let me chew through it slowly and assimilate it, and see if I can come up with improvements and answers! :)

Yep I agree with @Elyaradine's layout. I just took the stuff we already had and cleaned it up, what he's got is a good spot to be if we are able to make major layout changes. - I just would probably exchange those giant icons for bolder headings, a…

Well that would require: a) A section dedicated to that - as in a category or something b) An impartial curator c) Someone to write content both retroactively to older stuff and the new stuff going forward.

Hm? Not sure what you mean there, my idea is just to have forum posts be a central point of content creation rather than having to create content both in the forum and as WP posts. It can encompass news, events, everything. As it is now we're lookin…

They're looking for people to make use of their framework in two ways: 1. Outside of IMVU, so appstore/steam whatever games that uses an IMVU login to pull in personalisation. 2. Inside of IMVU, where that integration is pretty much mandatory, and …
