Game Jame but Not?
There is a hackathon/competition (Jump-Start) at UCT on the 3rd of August to construct a prototype anonymous social network for UCT students. Winners can expect a cash prize, contract to finish the site and a stake in the site.
There are currently 8 tech dev teams participating and more are welcome to join in . Teams are expected to have a minimal viable product by the end of the day and will automatically get a cash prize even if their idea is not chosen. The organizers won a national competition to reduce the high drop out rate in universities and their idea was to build a social network for peer support and to integrate university structures. The event will be attended by top pros like Jason Norwood is the CEO of tech start-up 10Layer who has vast experience with hackathons and Ashley Shaw who runs LightSpeed WordPress Development and has experience building social networks will also be there as a facilitator and judge.
This idea has been backed by UCT and the vice chancellor allowed UCT to be a pilot university for the social network.
