Cool article on DIY soundmaking, and how it's about the most effective thing you can do quickly for your prototypes:

  • That is interesting, and a good idea, I do believe -- thank you for sharing this article. ^_^
  • On the same topic, I use my iPad to sample, cut up and save sounds for my prototype - it's not AMAZING but it's quick n dirty.

I use Pocket Wavepad, which is incredibly a FREE app the does everything I need - filter out background noise, cut and save as wav/mp3s.

Anyone else have tips on what to use for making your own sounds quick n dirty? :)
  • Mouth sounds FTW. Seriously. I've managed a lot of neat effects by recording myself making sound effects (wind, explosions, buzzing, etc) and tweaking them in Audacity. If you do a good enough job, nobody notices!

I'm also a big fan of using SFXR to get raw samples, and mixing, merging and fiddling with them in Audacity to get rounder, less bloopy effects.
