Looking for a 3D animator

Free Lives, indie developer of smash hits Broforce and GORN, is looking for a 3D animator to breathe life into the animals on our new IP, Terra Nil. Terra Nil is an eco city builder about restoring a barren wasteland to a vibrant world teeming with life. We encourage candidates of diverse backgrounds to apply.

  • You will be creating animation for a large variety of animals that show their unique quirks and personality. Many of these animals will be quadrupeds of all shapes and sizes, but there are also birds and marine life.
  • Work in a collaborative environment on-site at our studio in Constantia, Cape Town is strongly preferred, but remote work may be an option for the right candidate.

  • a minimum 1 year of professional experience as an animator using Maya
  • a solid understanding of animation principles
  • proficiency with animal body mechanics and creating naturalistic movement
Advantageous, but can be learnt on-the-job:
  • experience making game animation (e.g. looping cycles)
  • experience working with game engines (e.g. Unity)
  • experience working with teams that use version control (e.g. Git)
  • experience rigging, weight-painting, and unwrapping UVs
  • passionate about animals and nature

This is a contract position for a duration of 10 months.

Salary is dependent on experience, but ranges from R18k-R35k pm.
