Ed-Tech Startup Looking for 3D Generalists

edited in Jobs
We’re looking to hire both a Senior 3D Generalist and a Junior 3D Generalist as we continue to build out the first iteration of a new, innovative education technology. We’re looking to hire each position to an initial contract of 11 to 12 months. This pair will join our small (9-person) creative team based in Woodstock, Cape Town.

About Us
Our core technology is a tablet-based assessment tool that tracks the developmental progress of young children (aged 4 to 6). Our app helps preschool teachers take note of when a kid is bottlenecked in a particular learning area so that the appropriate remediation efforts can take place and the child can get back on track. We’re designing this tool to work across a broad array of geographical and cultural settings, but always on 7” to 10” tablets. To get the job done, our app will consist of fun games and short educational assessment tasks.

(NB: I’m sure that when you hear the words “ed-tech” you think of boring educational content that’s been lightly gamified to make the content slightly less boring. Well, we’re trying to steer clear of that by making non-educational games that are truly fun for fun’s sake – similar to Toca Boca, Wunderkind’s ‘Tiny’ series, Big Wheels, Ahoiii, Avokiddo, etc. Our games’ entire purpose is to pique a child’s interest and enjoyment. So, there should be plenty of scope for creativity on that side of the project.)

While some of our games have a 2D aesthetic, we mostly work in Maya, Adobe Cloud, and Unity3D. We also subscribe to an Agile approach, meaning that we work in short sprints that include lots of testing, iteration, cross-functionality within the team, and self-organization. And while our work schedule is decently fluid, it does include core business hours of between 10:00 and 15:30.
