We've all been playing Monopoly wrong!

Turns out that there's an auction rule that nobody knows about because we all know how to play Monopoly: http://www.criticalmiss.com/issue10/CampaignRealMonopoly1.html

Does anyone have a Monopoly set that they can check this against? Still, the auction rule does sound like it might make the game be a whole lot less crap.

    WHAT.

At a glance I couldn't find it (it's been so long since I touched it that it's probably slowly inched its way into the deepest, darkest parts of storage), but I'll have another look later.

[edit] I can confirm that that rule exists!
  • So this is the reason I don't play Monopoly. Whenever I told people about this rule they would call bullshit and said I didn't know how to play... but without it the games would just go on forever...so I don't play Monopoly.
  • I've played with this rule for a couple of years (ever since I was given a set of my own) and although it might have helped, Monopoly is still a crap game in comparison with some others. Also, maybe my family is just different, but we played with the auction rule and didn't have arguments, at least not because of the game. So IMHO, don't even bother to try play with the auction rule, just move on to better games like Settlers of Catan or Dominion.
  • Digital versions of Monopoly have had this rule in since forever... I remember playing it on NES with the property auctions :)
  • Wow, I didn't know it existed. My last game of monopoly was probably 5/6 years ago, and we were drunk and we couldn't care less about anything, which was the only real reason we actually played monopoly.
  • I'm quite a big fan of Monopoly , :P specifically my Star Wars Monopoly...tbh I remember this rule but always forget to use it, it definitely makes the game flow better
