We're adding video stuff to VALA and needed an easy way to display subtitles, so I made this. Maybe it'll be useful to someone.

Just a suggestion, you could add time/letter and time/word as one of the settings.

The length of time that each sentence is displayed for is defined by the srt, which you'd create externally in something like http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit/
