(Volunteer) Learn to make games with Caffeinated Concoctions, no experience needed!
Hello world,
A while ago I started a community based project here on MakeGamesSA focussed on community skill development. If you would like more information you can read about it here:
http://makegamessa.com/discussion/4374/beginner-amature-or-just-looking-for-experience-let-s-make-something-awesome#latest
We are looking for anyone who has the attitude and interest to make games, whether you are a veteran or barely know how to code you will benefit from this group.
The team is currently working on two main projects, a 2D platformer known as Linked:
You are a retired secret agent who is given a secret mission to escort information through the darkest parts of the internet. Is there a greater force emerging?
Note that things are in very early development, but considering this project was born on this forum- we figured you deserved an early taste!
You can see some of the work done here:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8DiACLG11oYajNOTE1kWGNZX2s
Space run:
A 3D infinite runner where the objective is to shoot down alien craft while flying through a vortex. Concept on request
Caffeinated Concoctions aim to develop skills in an active and engaging way with real rewards in the end.
Our team is extremely close yet we operate over the internet, we are also completely democratic in our internal decisions.
We often have presentations where members share some of their skills with other platforms. This way everyone in the team always has access to new skill development.
Nothing says you can code more than a link to a project to the scale of a game on your CV!

That is really weird- I did not have this problem before uploading. I will DM you!
Thanks,
Tiaan
Two things from my play session, the camera's switch /drift when you change which way you look is a little too much. And makes it visually distracting switching sides. Maybe have the drift you see in front of you depend more on your velocity?
And then on the bottom right end of the map I fell out and got stuck in the darkness, about 4 blocks below the map and couldn't jump out. I am sure you know about this though, and that it will just reset/kill you later on.
Looking forward to what you guys do next.
Everything is created in house by the team.
Ideally before release we'll be able to source a sound engineer for audio like fx. etc otherwise this will be the only thing we cannot make ourselves.
The user will be able to configure a lot in the final build including camera motion, the 2 main options would be the existing demonstrated in the concept and a player tracker mode.
I like the velocity idea too and I will pitch it to the team!
Thank you for your feedback!
Just to ease some confusion:
The purpose of the team is to give anyone, regardless of experience an opportunity to learn and develop a game in a team to simulate a real functioning studio to give the South African game industry more experience
So that means ANYONE can join and benefit.
