Beginner, amature or just looking for experience? Let's make something awesome!
Hello world : )
I would like to start off by sharing my skills:
I have about a years worth of Unity3D experience, which may not sound like a lot- but any professional programmer would know that this is about the perfect amount of time to get acquainted with a new dev environment. I have been involved in a number of small projects during this time too.
I would like to make a game in my private capacity and at the same time provide some much needed experience to the SA game industry.
Which brings me to who I am looking for, firstly, this is not going to be a profitable venture (although it could be reevaluate as a team later on) and you should only apply for this if you are interested in learning or gaining experience
For this team to work I need:
A graphic designer,
A screenwriter,
A programmer with next to no C# experience and little to no Unity 3D experience.
Graphic Designer
I would prefer it if you had some professional experience but it is not essential. As I said, this project will serve only as a means to project and amplify your talents onto. Anybody is welcome though, regardless of experience!
You will mainly be required to produce 2D graphics for this project.
Screenwriter
This role could be filled by anyone existing in the team or have someone dedicated to it. Ideally the screenwriter will beta test the game while it's in development so a dedicated individual would be preferred.
You don't need any experience in screenwriting or GDD's for that matter to apply for this- simply have the ability to write something remotely creative and I will guide you in the right direction.
Programmer
Whether you would like to learn or you have some experience in Unity3D already, apply anyway.
What is involved:
This is a voluntary program aimed at developing skills. Nobody will gain any financial advantage from this, myself included, but as I said a team vote could change this closer to project adjourning.
Due to the nature of this project, members and myself included will work evenings and in their free time.
There will be no due dates but slacking will not be tolerated, the actions of one effects the whole teams progress.
So if any of this appeals to you, send me an email with:
1) the position that interests you,
2) along with your qualifications,
3) approximately how many hours you can spend in a week and weekend (seperated values) (estimate),
4) what you plan on gaining from this, experience, something for the CV etc.
5) A project idea (if you have one)
Project Metadata :D
Platform: Unity3D
Graphics/Game Style: 2D
Genre: Indie Adventure/Action
Graphics Platform: Preferably open source or free programs so everyone interested can learn from it
Contracts: Non binding, something will be drafted to protect the interests of the team though
Depending on the number of serious/ interested parties, I am willing to create multiple independent teams.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
-Tiaan

Comments
I am already involved in smaller projects of my own but the purpose of this is for those aspiring indie developers who have not had enough exposure to make games of their own.
I am trying to empower some newcomers :-)
My email address is tiaan@infinitycore.co.za
I will DM you too.
Thanks,
Tiaan : )
This is very interesting, I am running a similar thing with 2 local friends that I know from University. Have you made any progress with the game or the Team yet? I would be interested to join this venture but Unfortunately wont have the time to commit to this. I will only have available time nearer to the end of November. I am an Aspiring Game Programmer. So I just wanted to say Good Luck and I appreciate the idea and what you want to accomplish, its sad that I can't join you as of now. (Too much University Work and running 2 Game Dev Teams).
Have a look at Slack and Trello if you are going to work Remotely with people. I've Heard that it works great, otherwise you could also look at Discord. Good luck!
P.S. Maybe if you need someone in Nov/Dec I'll drop by and help out :)
Yes, I have been approached by several people, I currently have the first team in a "planning" phase and I hope to start more projects/teams focused on learning like this one very soon.
I appreciate your sentiment toward the cause! : )
I am always involved in a project of some sort, so I would highly recommend contacting me again in November, December or whenever you have time again and I will happily make place in a team either similar to those that I am setting up now or whatever I am involved in at the time.
I have found that even when applying for positions in programming at companies, even those not in the game industry, seem to express more interest if you have a "playable" expression (so to speak) of your abilities.
I wish you good fortune in regard to your studies!
Warm regards,
Tiaan : )
