Combining education and games.

Teaching transferable knowledge and skills via interactive media, has amazing potential.
Games has already made a huge difference in the world, and with it's use in education can change the future of schools.
By making high-school and collage subjects accessible in a fun and interactive way, the concept of teaching will be revolutionized.

I'd like to get into contact with every one pursuing this goal.

And if anyone knows of existing communities, please mention them here.

  • Something I didn't really understand from your talk is what you're trying to do about it. I have no doubt that almost everyone who's involved in games is convinced that traditional education is archaic and that games are able to teach most things far more effectively, so I think you were kind of preaching to the converted. :P Are you a teacher looking for game developers? A game developer looking to get into education? What are you hoping to achieve?

I believe Formula D Interactive and Seamonster have worked/are working on educational games (amongst their other work). There's another that @Tuism and @Cheatsi are working for, but I forget the name.

Saw this recently. It's not quite what you were talking about (I think this is more meta and abstract than what you were talking about), but it's certainly interesting. It's less about making learning "fun", so much as about making learning more relevant, and seems to place more power on autodidactics. http://www.learningisearning2026.org/

Something Evan shared with me last year that's influenced my view on learning stuff is the Hole in the Wall. As a brief summary, the idea's that kids are able to teach themselves (especially in poorer areas where there's a lack of teachers), simply by having an adult -- who doesn't need to be a teacher, and doesn't even need to have any knowledge of the subject -- provide little bursts of encouragement, show interest, and ask them questions. Children's curiosity can be enough for them to learn things for themselves. https://www.ted.com/talks/sugata_mitra_shows_how_kids_teach_themselves?language=en
