Make Games Minijam 7th of May (in Cape Town)
If you're staying at home wondering why other people are getting ahead and you are falling behind, it's because you're not at the Make Games Monthly Minijam.
There is an 8 hour jam hosted by The Bandwidth Barn in Woodstock on Saturday the 7th of May.
This event will happen monthly and is free to attend for everyone, but if you want to be fed at the event it'll cost R100.
The idea is that everyone arrives at 12:00, and at 12:30 we reveal a few secret (optional) modifiers and everyone brainstorms, jamming starts at 1pm and everyone stops jamming 8 hours later (with lunch happening somewhere in between).
We all eat pizza (or some pizza equivalent) at 9pm and at 9:30pm everyone presents whatever they've built (to rapturous applause and cheering).
For this month's Make Games Minijam the theme is:
Companion.
The goal for this jam is building a game that features a companion.
Some of the best companions can help you achieve your goals, some of the worst may hold you back. But some companions endear themselves to players, even though they may be old, or an inanimate object, or about to cease to exist.
Exploring the possibilities of companionship in games is what this jam is about. What would you like to take on your journey?
Of course, if you participate, you don't have to stick to the theme. If you find inspiration elsewhere then use it. The only requirement is that after 8 hours you present what you've made and tell the group what you've learned, even if what you've made is incomplete, and what you've learned is that you were too ambitious.
(I have set the time of the minijam one hour later, as people tended to arrive only after 12pm anyway. Let me know if this is a worse timeframe.)

:P
FYI, it's Mother's Day on Sunday. Not sure if anyone wants to try incorporate that into your game, but it's perhaps worth a thought
But yeah, it was really funny prototyping in almost complete silence, and then out of nowhere...
"Meow! Meow! Meow!" :3
Thanks again for organizing, had lots of fun today.
(The kitten is meowing every time the screen flashes)
