3d Game idea - where to from here?

Hi there

I am in need of some cool game idea's if you are willing to give some advice?

What I have so far:

1) I am using Unity3d
2) Animated mech with weapons
3) Animated hover craft
4) I have a many cool terrains.

What I still need:

1) Enemy AI (maybe?)
2) Enemy models
3) 3D buildings and/or structures

I have been spending most of my time making sure the physics all works ("real world" behaviors). So most of that is ironed out. Example: collisions, ray casting, movement, camera management, those sort of things.

Now I am in need of some good game idea - and im looking for anyone who know what's the best way forward from here? Im trying to make something wilth 7 or 8 levels (maps) - but with a simple and fun game interactions.

I am trying to make something unique - but most of all the game needs to be fun and full of action.

Should I add come kind of puzzle dimension to the game or should I just go for a guns blazing sort of game?

Here is: My game idea so far > as a mercenary:

1) Fly down with a drop ship.
2) Kill a bunch of enemies - so that I can "steal" the loot.
3) progress to the next level.
4) Next level - next planet - move to set 1 again.

Is this a terrible idea? Any idea's or advice are welcome. I have just stated game development. (1 week)

Thx

  • Hovercar racing can be fun :) You somehow make a 2 player game where one controls the mech and one controls the hovercar. The hovercar has to complete a circuit x times before getting destroyed by the slower, but more powerful mech.

Although, it's worth pointing out that just because you have a mech and a hovercraft working, doesn't mean you need to put them in the same game.
  • Hi there @roguecode

Thx for the input. Played your hover game. It was very cool. Cant wait to see how far you get..!

Yeah.. as for the hover craft and mech mix - I was thinking making a hover craft free to play and then add the Mech as a "in-game" purchase. (For some more firepower). That type of thing? Trying to think up a business model at the same time. :)

I do like your multiplayer idea though. Seen any game out there have the same concept?

    Prototype can be found here:

Push TAB to gain mouse lock - and ESC to loose mouse lock.

Note: Takes a while to download.
  • ...The year is 22XX and the world's food supplies have run dry. The world's greatest Anthropologists and the UN have teamed up to solve the crisis by implementing a law that states every household must keep a insect farm of meal bugs, to grow them as a source of food, and general currency.

XX years go by and all seems well, the crisis has been averted and the Earth's human population is stabilizing thanks to a great organization who has taken this opportunity to create industrial-size insect farms across the planet intended to lift the burden brought on by the UN's household Insect farming law. This organization has reached hero status, seen by many as humankind's savior. The people of Earth can once again pursue enriching their well-being. Industry and Commerce, seen only as a pipe-dream, can once more flourish.

Unfortunately, due to an increasing population, the usual food output is not enough. Humankind's savior devises a secret plan to genetically engineer super insects, that grow bigger and fatter to meet food demands.

These creatures, and their monstrous proportions, quickly get out of hand and wreak havoc upon the surrounding cities and settlements. The world is again in crisis.

Luckily, due to the substantial growth in industry, Special Armored Mech-Suits were created to aid construction. These Super-Mega Mech-Suits will now be re-purposed and donned by the Earth's bravest heroes to defeat the Titanium-Tough-Exoskeletal-Mega-Insect bastards to save the planet from Arma-mega-geddon!
  • NICE...! LOVE IT..!
  • Make death race with mechs instead of cars. Mechs running around and killing each other to get to the finish line first. Upgrade weapons, legs, etc. etc. So basically need for speed with mechs. But I don't know how thrilling a low-speed race can be. Might get a bit boring if you have a substantial lead. Maybe you can make a hovercraft/mech transformer thing like Future Cop. Then some parts of the track are really rough with obstacles and stuff where you need a mech with jumping capabilities. Other parts are flat where you can cruise around in hover mode.
  • Yeah. A "hovercraft/mech transformer" model would be fantastic...! Cant seem to find a 3D model like this at the moment tho. :(
  • Hey UberGeoff, I know someone who has a nice hovercraft/mech transformer model for you if interested. It is not rigged at the moment but he might be willing to do it.
  • Whhhaaat..! That would be sweet. Can you send contact details?
