YouTube's gaming site

Most of you probably know this, but I only stumbled upon this when using YouTube via playstation.

YouTube gaming dedicated site, for streaming also:
https://gaming.youtube.com/

Anyone using this? Tips?

  • I haven't streamed using this. Although I did watch the League of Legends Championships on it. Personally, the quality is a lot better on Youtube than on Twitch. On Twitch I can barely enjoy a Medium quality stream, but with Youtube I was able to get 720 streams without any problems. The only problem is more people still use Twitch than Youtube so content wise it sucks
  • I use Livestreamer to stream Twitch using my VLC player. It allows me to stream at much higher quality with no stutter or buffering. Plus you get to feel extra 1334 for using the command prompt :D

    Is 1334 the new 1337? :D

  • Geek cred ruined :c
  • I have had people suggest the livestreamer option for twitch, but just in general have had much better results watching things on youtube gaming.

I feel like this is mostly due to youtube being able to push content internationally more reliably as they have their own cache servers extending into foreign countries to help with providing a high quality service, but haven't yet tried streaming. That being said in January/February I will be experimenting with both options and decide which works for me best and can give a better opinion.

I think Youtube gaming is a great option for starting out streaming at this because watching "Let's Plays" is still a large part of Youtube's viewership - and while the prerecorded videos of Let's Plays are a saturated space and difficult to get into and break ground. I have often heard people complaining that when they tried to watch their favourite games in Youtube gaming they couldn't find a decent stream - Twitch has hundreds of people streaming all the popular games at any given time whereas if you were to start following a schedule and streaming at specific times on youtube gaming you would start getting a lot of views - at this moment the only games with 100+ people streaming it on youtube are Fallout 4 and Call of Duty Black Ops 3. For other games you could likely get quite a good following if you want to start out (or at least that is what I am hoping for next year).
