Found a Joburg kickstarter for a game

edited in General
Stumbled on this while browsing generally. KS's discovery is actually pretty neat if you go looking.

21 days to go, 0% raised... 5000 CAD goal. I guess this is a perfect example of how you can't just put something online and hope for the best.

Who's James van Heerden? Sorry if I missed anyone, I can't recall...

The KS looks like this:

A game that is said to be "like Temple Run but more interactive and has other added benefits like different maps to play on."

  • Hmmm. I feel really bad about that, it's obvious that this was done with high hopes but little understanding of what Kickstarting something is like or needs from you.

I'm curious what the money is for, I'm assuming it might be hardware to do the iOS thing? Has anyone reached out to them to tell them about AMAZE? Seems like a pretty good time right now to be a curious dev in JHB.
  • from the KS: "The money will be used to pay for the development of the app. For the second (paid) part of the app I will need $9000 AUD (so an extra $4000 AUD)"

I dropped him a message to tell him about MGSA, the forums and A MAZE. We'll see what happens.
  • When I was in high school, as he is, I had absurd amounts of time at my disposal to tinker and make stuff. I guess it's fine thinking in proper business terms about this and factoring this in as "development costs", but he likely doesn't actually need the money.
  • How are people getting a kick starter in South Africa?
  • The currency is AUD so I guess they got someone in Australia to help them out. You need a bank account in a country that is allowed by KS.
