Party Member Wanted: Skilled in the Dark Arts of Awesome 2D Graphics

edited in Jobs
We're looking for someone skilled in the dark arts of summoning awesome looking 2D graphics to join our little party of adventurers.

The Quest
So a little about what we're trying to achieve and why we need to involve the dark arts....

We're trying to make a mobile game centered around James' (for who this unknown guy is, please see the section below) Post Graduate Accounting class that takes a tongue in cheek look at the life of a typical Accounting student at UCT. This centers around making a bunch of fun little minigames based on Accounting students' worst nightmares (the dreaded 5 volume long International Financial Reporting Standards) , the teaching staff and current affairs at the university (Rhodes Must Fall, etc). Players earn points based on how well they complete each minigame and earn bonuses depending on how many lives they have left.

The plan is to build a complete game within a relatively short space of time that is fully functional and looks awesome and release it to the class (of approximately 400 people although it is possible that others outside of the class will play it if it turns out to be any good). Once its complete, we plan on getting one or two of the audit firms (the likes of KPMG, PWC, Deloitte, etc) involved in sponsoring some prizes for the expertly skilled players who manage to crack our high score list.

It's a great way to get the thrill of being involved in a project and seeing something come to fruition in a relatively short space of time. It's also a good opportunity to get yourself some exposure which could potentially help you land a job in the local game development industry.

The Party
It always helps to know you're working with actual people and not some evil AI trying to use your artistic abilities to create the bane of all the internets, pop-up adverts. So here's a little about us...

Elite Code Monkey - David "F1ak3r" Yates
Legend has it that David has a physique akin to that of the Hunchback of Notre Dome due to all the hours he has spent pounding away at his keyboard or maybe it's actually because all the Coca-Cola he has consumed over the years has begun to erode his spine. David is the one continually working his magic to convert ideas and pictures into something that people can actually play.

For more on David, visit his website with the genius URL davidyat.es (no www)

The Dictator - James "Chuluka" Osner
Renowned for his ability to crack lame jokes that nobody else finds funny and to continually find others to do his coding for him, we have James Osner. James is the one who is currently fills the role of party leader and tries really hard, but usually in vain, to emulate David's coding magic.

James isn't nearly half as cool as David so he doesn't have his own website, let alone one with a genius URL.

What We've Done So Far
We've got a working prototype with roughly half of the levels almost fully implemented at this stage. We'll gladly show you what we have put together so far and the only reason that we haven't uploaded any material with this post is because the game currently uses very basic (and ugly) placeholder graphics which aren't really conducive to showing what we've got in a very good light. Should you want to see the game in action, we'll gladly meet up with you (in Cape Town or Pretoria) and give you a live demonstration.

The Reward
Unfortunately since James is still a student and David only recently started working, we can't offer to pay you for what you contribute. All we can offer you is some fun and the opportunity to get some exposure and have something to add to your portfolio that will hopefully land you a job in the future.
