I'm recruiting for a new project, a unique 3rd person survival horror.

Hi my name is Fabian Els I'm a zbrush modeler and concept thinker upper :P and I hope to learn unity 5 soon so that I can make levels and such. Gaming is my passion but I want to make making games my life, I am 20 years of age and currently not employed or studying so I have a ton of free time to devote to making stuff. I live in Pretoria east so I hope someone nearby answers my post :P if not I use skype quite often, my skype name is Fabian Els, please feel free to contact me!

Ok here's my pitch, It's a 3rd person game set in a sci fi horror universe, in the not too distant future world war 3 eventually breaks out and it ravages the earth to the point of global extinction. After the war a unified government of earth was formed by the few remaining people of earth, with the earth drying up the newly formed government came up with a plan to send their remaining scientists to a previously unknown ocean planet with a possible solution to the earth's problem, after two months the scientists send a transmission to the government proclaiming that they've found the solution only to be cut off thus prompting the government to send an elite evacuation team to get the scientists and the solution back on earth, this is where the player comes in.

The player will play as the commander of the evac team a world war three veteran who was psychologically scarred by the war's events and sent on the "rescue" mission to ease him back into his career, the rescue mission will obviously not go as planned as you will have to keep yourself your team and the scientists from losing their minds as some substance from the planets surface is somehow causing the people to mutate and horrifically merge with the planet's alien sea life and seem to be guarding some ruins on the planets surface. You explore the downed ship under the planet's vast ocean, the levels will mostly be in the ship, dank dark and claustrophobic and almost always dangerous, you never know whats in the water. The environment will even be a danger too as there will be plenty of traps to navigate through, your team will be vulnerable too as they can be captured and mutated so too can any of the scientists you don't manage to save, this will make things more difficult for you if you let too many people die. There will be a system called the "state of mind meter" meaning anything you see that might disturb your character can cause a mental break which can negatively impact your choices in the game like where to go, judgement in who to save an even make you hallucinate.

Early on in the game you will find a dossier containing information about the scientists and before that you will have info on your squad too like psych profiles and such, this information will help in keeping your squad and the scientist's minds at ease because if their minds aren't they could do something stupid like run off on their own or try to kill their allies (you included) to prevent this you will have to talk to them and understand them, eventually gaining their trust all while keeping yourself calm. Exploration may not be important but it can be helpful as you are able to find helpful items when going off of the beaten path but the chance of danger rises.

Each member of your squad will have their own unique abilities and traits, like a combat engineer, medic, close quarters specialist, for instance an engineer will be able to make certain machinery work or open locked doors or a medic to heal you or others but if any of them should be mutated you can pick up their skills but to a limited degree and your state of mind meter will take a large hit.

All input is valued for those who'd like to join me on this en-devour and I want to eventually make this into a business, my plan is to come up with a working demo and maybe a trailer then a website to garner attention for project thera then finally a kickstarter campaign, hopefully with enough backers I can really make this project shine! However all I can do is make characters and other items and will eventually start learning unity 5 so that I can make levels too and rig characters and whatever else unity 5 can do. I really want to start a team consisting of people with the skills I lack to make a full game, I want to make this a proper team and eventually form our own studio and make a career of this.

I use skype often and prefer voice chatting to texting, my skype name is Fabian Els, hope someone is interested!

  • Hey!
Its great that you want to make games but to be frank you are going to have a hard time convincing anyone to join your team. If by some miracle you do get a team together chances are that the project will fail because it will be everyones first time making a game. This happened to me btw. We get a lot of post like this and generally we advise people to start small and actually make a small game first.

If you cant program you can either learn to program (I highly recommend this if you want to get into independent game development) or you can find a team mate to help you. If you do want to attract a team mate you might want to post something other than a story. Maybe some character sketches or something visual like that.

That being said if you do manage to get a team mate remember to keep it small. Shoot for something you can finish in a week and you will probably be done in two months.

Release this small thing you made. I cant stress enough the amount of things you learn from actually releasing something.

Also take a look at construct 2 / gamemaker as they allow you to make a game without having programming knowledge.

Working alone is waaaayyy easier than working with someone else. Adding another person into the mix means that you will spend less time making the game and more time communicating and managing. The time you spend on managing instead of making increases exponentially for each team member you add to the project.

I know this is probably not what you want to hear. I know I didn't.

Congrads on taking the first steps to making games !!
