A good part of this talk would be of interest to people keen on developing content for parties like SFA. I would also want to include some thoughts on making games for people who are computer illiterate / struggle with English / have socio-cultural obstacles.
I'd like to start a discussion around education and games.
There is an organisation called Code4CT which has the aim of teaching girls from disadvantaged backgrounds to code. They organise a series of week long workshops work shops which are aimed to get these girls excited about coding and thereafter provide mentoring to help develop entrepreneurial and programming skills. At the moment the programme is very focused on web development, however I've been in contact with the founder of the course, and there may be an opportunity to develop follow up workshops which focus on games/interactive media.
More generally I've been thinking about game design at tertiary institutes. Is the course I'M doing valuable beyond CS skills.
So I'd like to ask the community about what they think is important in game design education.
@NickCuthbert sounds great! I would ask that to start the discussion you provide an introduction to the problem and perhaps pose a question to the audience to get the ball rolling. Sounds like a great discussion - something I think about greatly myself!
@MNRosa Would be great to hear about that :).
If Viva cafe have the stuff we need, I vote we confirm with them ASAP, cause time is running out.
Bottom line: The CT Meetup is cancelled this month. Apologies (and could everyone hold onto their talks for next month, which should be at Miao again). Come to EGE.
Some indication of who's interested would be great (don't wanna drive through from Stellies if nobody can make it), maybe <3 this post or reply if you're coming.
I'll still aim to be there from about 18:30, but people are welcome to join later of course :)
Perseverance Tavern (Percy's) is on Buitenkant St indeed: https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/Perseverance+Tavern/@-33.93051,18.420858,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x1dcc677b925df075:0xd6c4045d1dc88375?hl=en
Seriously though, might also be late but I'll be there.
A new coffee shop has opened up in town called The Big Box Boardgames Cafe and they said they'd be happy to host a community meet up. The venue is not very big but it could work. Let me know if you want me to talk to them or if you want their contact details to arrange it.
