Is anyone interested in being a mentor?

Hey guys

I'm a programmer (Studying Electronic Engineering) that is interested in designing and developing games. I'm still a novice at it (Only have 2 games under the belt), but I'd like to make it my craft one day. I've come to the point where I'm having problems with a lot of small questions which are probably just due to the fact that I'm very inexperienced. What I'm looking for is someone that would like to mentor me in the art of game design and development. You could see me as an apprentice if you wish to.

I'm not looking for someone to teach me everything. In stead I'm looking for someone that I can establish a friendship with and chat with about game design and development. Of course I'll still ask the occasional question every now and then.

Warm Regards
Nuclear Mosquito

  • Everyone here is your mentor :)

  • Thanks. That is awesome to know. I'll start asking my questions in the appropriate sections :)

Note: I'm also looking for someone I can keep personal contact with.
  • The forums exist to ask stupid questions on. :P Dump your questions in a thread and folks will answer according to their experience and aptitudes. From there you can get to know everyone and start asking people directly if need be. A bunch of us are also on the Twitters, which is an excellent way to network with everyone and ask questions.

If it's even more personal contact you want, I'd strongly recommend showing up at the monthly meets (if you're able) with a game or two to break the ice with, and developing those friendships first-hand. :)

@Gazza_N That is an excellent suggestion. I assume they announce the Cape Town monthly meets on these forums?
  • @Nuclear_Mosquito Your assumption is a correct one.
  • The CT meetups take place on the last Wednesday of every month, so you can set aside that evening already :)

You assume correctly. I think the CT meets are on the last Wednesday of every month, but they're normally announced a week or two in advance with all the venue information. Good luck, and don't be a stranger. :)

    EDIT: Blargh! Twice-ninja'd.
  • @ Gazza_N You make up for it by having a Yahtzee minion. :)

Thanks guys. I'll see you at the end of the month then.
  • Don't let the fact that there's a meetup at the end of the month stop you from interacting! Post! Chat! Show stuff! :)
  • @Tuism I shared some information on the Indie Game Maker Contest that is happening around June. I'll get some stuff together to share sometime.
