"How do you make games ?"

Hey,
So Ive been asked this countless times by people my school age and by older folks and I still don't really know how to respond to the "how do you make games ?" question.

Normally I will be standing near my game and someone will ask :
They : "Did you make this ?"
Me : "Yes !"
They : "How ?"
Me : "???"

So I would just like to know what your responses are.. Do you go into the details and say "This is made in middle-ware called Unity 3D" or do you say something playfull like "Blood and tears and lots of coffee"

Thanks for your time,
Kobus

  • Actually been asked this quite a few times recently. Usually I`ll use some sort of comical comment like "Oh, I just do the coding and leave the important stuff to someone else", or "I'ts simple. You type a few lines and press play, and things happen"
  • I always presume the person wants to make games as well so I offer to give them the tools and upsell MGSA

  • Ha, unlike Fengol, I assume they're just asking out of basic curiosity. I always tell them that there are tools available on the Internet which I use to build art and sound and do a bit of programming with, and voila! Game! If they're interested in more details they tend to ask more pointed questions, and then I give specifics. Otherwise they're pretty much sated. :P
  • People ask that question?

I suppose when you get a bit older and you don't have many people around you, there really is nobody to ask that question. And the people that are around have much different life problems and don't really care how you made it, just if you made any money on it.

Enjoy it Kobusvdwalt9 while people are still asking that question. :)

  • I like giving credit to Unity for making my life a lot easier :)
