Summaries of VFX roundtables GDC
Drew Skillman (previously from Double Fine) has put together summaries of what they've talked about at the VFX roundtables at each of the meets since they started. The GDC2015 one just got put up. Almost all of the stuff listed (in all of the years) are technical hacks to add some dynamism for your shaders and particles.

But despite almost all of them being tech (which I feel is largely because of how rendering technology evolves and progresses, and we as artists adapt to whatever the new tech allows us to do), something I want to highlight is something listed in their advice to students:

But despite almost all of them being tech (which I feel is largely because of how rendering technology evolves and progresses, and we as artists adapt to whatever the new tech allows us to do), something I want to highlight is something listed in their advice to students:
- Sketchbooks. Some teams looked specifically for sketchbooks from VFX applicants when hiring.
- A sense of art and the fundamentals of art are more important than actual technical knowledge which can be taught later. Obviously students still need an aptitude and interest in the technical side.
