e-Smash! (As seen in February meetup)

Just want to say thanks for all the great comments at the meeting. Got my head spinning on some new ideas. Love to hear what more of you guys think.

Welcome to e-Smash!

  • Driving back from the meet up on the highway, I realised the gantries are actually different for each side of the highway. If you split your road into two lanes with two separate sets of gantries, it will avoid the serious problems with only one player's hit registering on the gantry, while still having a competitive game.

Also the play area definitely needs to look more like a road, needs road markings, trees, sky, sunlight...
  • Cool thanks man. Yeah that's a good idea. As well as a fix for co-op and 1 person both hammers.
  • This is where I got the idea from.

If you watch the video you see that the maker also didn't add a register for the other player swinging slower than his opponent. One player hits and the other just misses. Even though the hammer looks like it goes through the mole he still misses.
  • Re: Mole Hammer...

You'll notice that when a player hits first and the second player goes for a hit, it doesn't actually say "miss". It says "miss" when there's nothing on screen to be hit.

Then they have a lot more variety in the stuff to hit (some with helmets requiring two hits, some multihitter, rabbits that you shouldn't hit, etc), and no set rhythm to it. And very clear feedback in when hitting occurs (the hitting player's hammer stops moving).

So... There are many subtle things that you can learn from this inspiration beyond the very obvious, and they all add up to a an experience :)
  • Tuism are you the guy who said I should make it a moving line on a road instead of the yellow block?

Yeah I love this game, played with my Korean kids and it shared like crazy cause of its fun style and PVP.

I found you comments most insightful, thanks. You too Nitrogen! :)
  • Yeah, that was one of the things I said, if you're going to try and place your theme into the world of e-tolls, it should try to immerse the player in that illusion as much as possible, or else it just feels contrived.

Mole Hammer has a lot more to it than just hitting things with hammers. There's an element of mastery and learning to it, that's what makes it shareable. Try and see what it is and learn from that :)
