Devs Play - A new series from Double Fine/2PP

This might be of interest to some of you. Two things that stood out for me were:

1. The difficulty curve on The Lion King was influenced by the suits. They wanted it to be difficult to play through the game if you just rented it - the theory I guess being that it might lead to a sale.

2. Pixel art! This is a thing I keep jumping up and down about. Modern pixel art is exactly that - modern. It just does not look like it did way back when, mainly due to the fact that these games were typically played on CRT screens. I remember always thinking that "PC" games were ugly, but really it was just due to the better quality monitors. CRT screens had RGB electron guns arranged in a way that made pixels not square, and colour choices affected how they blended together and smoothed. Raster-pattern gradients were smooth and sprites didn't usually look blocky. And you can't really emulate the look accurately with a shader/filter.
