Crowd Funded Science!

Was really excited to come across this today:
Our mission is to fund science that moves us forward.

As a society, we are in a position to study, learn, and innovate more than ever before. Yet there is one major bottleneck: funding. In recent years, it's become increasingly difficult for new ideas to get off the ground, especially the innovative and high-risk ideas with the biggest impact.

Since 2010, 80% of principal investigators spend more time writing grant proposals and 67% are struggling with less funding. 'Big science' has become synonymous with 'budget cuts'.

This is about our ability to invest in our future. This is about Science for the people, by the people.

I hope we can get as excited about these projects as we do about kickstarting great games. There's a lot of benefits to supporting this venture :)

  • Oh lord yes, it's about time we had something like this!
  • I have friends that do statistical analysis of experimental data, most of the information they get is tainted by really bad experiment design or implementation. I'd love it if this site did something to address that issue - I read through a couple of the proposed experiments and felt they could really have done with a methodology review. It's a good start, but it needs more planning staff.

I had kind of assumed that these studies were still being supervised through a University professor... Though, I suppose that wouldn't guarantee anything either.
