Hmm... all I can find is that it is a Namibian registered CC, and afaik they don't have an online search repository. I note that the acronym now stands for Southern African Game Development as opposed to South. Interesting times indeed :)
This sounds fricken cool! (I'm totally down to collaboration with Southern African bros) Africa needs more game development!
[edit] Unless it's a company called "Southern African Game Development" that farm Wildebeest or something for rich people to shoot at. That wouldn't be particularly cool.
We are still working out the details, way forward and will post an update, hopefully soon.
One thing is certain I do not want to make an enemy of makegamessa and the same goes for some of the old users of the old sagd. It is a difficult position to be in but I will try my best to accommodate as many people as is possible.
For that reason it was decided to go regional i.e. Southern Africa. The new SAGD will be maintained by my company DWS in Namibia.
@Fyrewolf: Surely you have a reason to re-open the site though, I'm not wondering about an itemised plan, I'm wondering what the point is? You have to have some sort of goal in mind, even if it's just a high-level thing, right?
Are you looking at doing dev-support stuff, like file uploads and things like that, or are you planning to start up yet another forum?
@Tuism We want to see if we can provide services to help game creators reach their target audiance. Atm I am specifically thinking of published works but I am sure after the first brainstorming session we will have more services and features popping up.
I have been super busy with some big projects for clients and did not get time to really develop this further, although I did work on the backend quite allot.
sagamedev is dead. Accept it, move on and let it be. SA developers have made their choice and I accept it. Make Games Instead! and @dislekcia stop making those comments on twitter lol
I will still own the domains since it was a gift from a friend. Please respect that, and leave it at that. All domains will permanently redirect to agamedev.com which will henceforth be run as my personal space. I want to make games instead. :)
"sagamedev.com" is a problematic domain to sit on or use for personal gain. sagamedev.com claims to represent South African gaming, and has done to varying extents over the years, but at the moment it is just representing fyrewolfe and three other devs.
This affects all of South African game development because people who are trying to learn about South African game development (like journalists or parents of potential game developers or potential game developers there) might end up at sagamedev.com... in which case sagamedev.com misrepresents the South African game development community.
If the domain was called "FyreWolfGameDev.com" this wouldn't be an issue.
Transferring ownership (and being remunerated appropriately for it) to the South African game development association sounds like a solution where everyone wins.
@Fyrewolfe: It's awesome that you want to make more games. I'm super for that! What are you going to change to make that happen?
I just don't see the difference between a "dead" and an "alive" SAGD/AGD. It's not like either site has actually had an impact or achieved anything over the past year. It seems like SAGD/AGD only exists to be separate, which seems incredibly sad.
Why can't those URLs be useful to the development community and redirect here instead of remaining a drain on the visibility/discoverability of local game development?
I posted the update on 4AM on Saturday and have had some personal problems I had to deal with. My apologies. The best I can do is to transfer gamedev.co.za to MGSA.
Leslie Young has taken over sagamedev.com and sagamedev.co.za from me.
@fyrewolfe: That would be awesome! What do you need to make that happen?
Any idea what Leslie is planning with sagamedev.com? Would it be worth talking to him about it? I mean, right now it just feels like it's trying to stay separate again, if he's unhappy with what MGSA is doing there are definitely ways to get involved.

Save the facepalming for later me thinks...

I guess we'll see what this is all about eventually. Let's hope it's a positive thing.

I hope my answer, for now, is satisfactory. :)
