I'd think some of you would like to participate or watch what is happening.
Pewdiepie is hosting a game jam from 21-23 Nov. Check it out. My friend and I are talking
about it and we think we'll maybe make a game for the jam. Would like to see some South African entries :D
Top 10 games get played by Pewdiepie on his channel. Who knows maybe your game will become famous...

I would suggest looking at this guide to pixel art. Whilst there is freedom to be creative with technique, I recommend familiarizing yourself with some of the best practices in creating pixel art that have been developed over the years. These techniques have helped me greatly increase my skill. Hope it helps.
