NEED some writing jobs - ASAP :)

edited in Jobs
Hey guys

I really need some positivity to come my way. Just got kicked in the gut, with the fact that I wont be able to partake in a Game Design course(thats always fun). So at the moment, I need some stuff to keep me busy(as watching Youtube vids on how to build a DIY Nuke, is pretty awkward...). I am just tired of struggling. I want to partake in the creation of games, soooooooo freaking badly.

Sooooo, if you have any writing related work that needs some good o'll TLC(wink wink), please inbox me or email me at: juaburg@gmail.com

Kind regardo
Juan

I'm sorry the course didn't work out.

Make a portfolio. Write stuff. Make games. You don't need others to give you a job before doing those things, and nobody is going to hire you without at the very least seeing a sample of your work. Show why you deserve a shot any more than the many folks who constantly send in portfolios, interact with and contribute to this community, do job shadowing and internships, and create value for themselves with hard work.

  • Exactly!

Making stuff requires no permission from other people. Even with writing - write! We just had a writing competition (by competition it simply means here's a brief, go do something - there're no prizes, the only prize is the prize of creation, which is the point of all our comps)

The rest of us are just making stuff, what you can also do is go through the projects category and find prototype that look interesting to you - and write some stuff around it. http://makegamessa.com/categories/projects Why not? :)
  • Also, game jams.

Start a blog - and make it a game narrative. If you can make it compelling without any graphics, you might get attention ;)
  • Use Twine - http://twinery.org/ - it lets you make non-linear interactive stories easily. It's making a game with just writing! Many many people have used it previously to awesome effect... I can't remember their names though, damn :/
  • I agree with all of these guys's comments. The guys who now write for valve (Erik Wolpaw, chet faliszek) Started out by writing gaming news on this site : http://www.oldmanmurray.com/ They didn't ask anyone's permission. Valve then saw what they made and valve hired them.

So yeah I will leave you with another link which helped me a lot :
I understand that it may be more difficult for a writer but I feel that the principle still applies.
  • When the nag magazine covered @Tuism's dead run, they actually had an entire insert about how he went about creating that game without any coding experience. Get involved in the community and grab every opportunity to learn from others. Create something cool enough to inspire others to assist you. Good luck man.
  • Hey Buddddies :) Thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and links, really appreciate it. I woke-up with an idea that I want to pitch to a local developer, if that does not work out, I want to join up with a programmer and artist, to make it happen. Only thing is, George is not fillllled with programmers or artists(not that i am aware of???).

Thanks again for all the input :)

    Kind regards,
    Juan
  • Any reason you can't pitch it out here? Having a cool story board/design/paper prototype would be a great way to catch the eye of collaborators :)
