The future of unreal tournament - TF2 model and open source

Epic announce that the next UT is going be open development and completely free - with the game being paid for by a user generated marketplace. Gotta say max respect to Epic for taking bold and risky moves. I'm quite tempted to follow along for the sheer sake of learning opportunities (yeah like I'm ever going to have the time for that).

Also if you have the skills and are an early mover in that marketplace you can probably make a butt load of money.

  • From the very first line of code, the very first art created and design decision made, development will happen in the open, as a collaboration between Epic, UT fans and UE4 developers. We’ll be using forums for discussion, and Twitch streams for regular updates.
Wow, this approach, while not new, is amazing to hear coming from a big studio. Bigups and kudos to them :)

This. I'm still cross at all the Luma Arcade artists for not taking my advice when the Unity Asset Store launched and getting a foothold in there. They could each have been established content providers by now :)
