Indie Mega Booth for Rage

I have a suggestion for either this years Rage or next years rage.

I see this as a separate entity to the already kind makegamessa folks who are putting together a stand at Rage to showcase some games at no cost but by invite only.

What I thought is that we could have an Indie Mega Booth the follows the PAX/ Indie system.

The Indie Mega Booth would consist of a shared table or shop fitted area that would include place for a poster as well as a screen. mouse, keyboard or gamepad etc.
The level of customisation of this area would be low and should be all inclusive in the price. You would show up with your laptop or PC, connect to the provided screen and then demo your product. I think the poster and snapper frame would be provided to give a consistency to the stand. The general idea would be that instead of forking out 20k for a stand and the design, you allocate multiple people to an area.

This would be a paid exercise. PAX I believe is about 2 thousand USD, but I think we could get away with a R 2k budget per exhibitor, although I have not done the exact sums.

It needs thought and fine tuning but would anybody be interested in this?

  • I was also conservative on the PAX price, it may be even higher with more space etc.
  • I would definitely be interested in this.

Could someone request two next to each other to demo a multi-player game for instance?
  • If you do decide to do this. Please make sure you are located near the MGSA and Celestial's booth.
That way we have a indie safe zone, A place of refuge from call of duty :)
  • Thanks quintond, At the conventions where they do this, you would pay for an extra pc/screen etc.
I checked with Rage and the price is 2500 odd per sqm so it is affordable if we can get 6+ folks on board.

    Anybody else interested?
  • I would advise you to check with the rAge coordinators that you can resell the space before hand. Just so you don't run into any problems.
  • Not intending on doing this but I want to get an idea of there is an interest to do such a thing.
Nag would need to be involved so I would think it needs to be a 2015 proposal.
  • Just to point out Indie Mega Booth is a term, quite possibly trademarked, run by Kelly Wallick and a bunch of other cool people.

While this is a cool initiative I would caution against calling it an "Indie Mega Booth" as that would be confusing and might lead people to assume things which would otherwise be false.

Also I think what you are talking about is much more akin to the Indie MiniBooth.
  • Yeah we need to give it a name. It certainly can't be that name. The same as the MGSA stand, we should have a name to rally behind AND TO GO ON A TSHIRT :)
  • I was using Indie Mega/Mini/Micro Booth to explain the concept.

What's the difference between this idea and what happened at rAge last year? Surely the concept is exactly the same, especially when we referenced the Indie Megabooth a ton in our meetings and planning leading up to rAge? Is the issue the curation?

  • Confirmed this with Andre; the makegamesa booth is invite only and limited to the space they can get with regards to pricing and so forth. Did you read my initial post?
  • So from what you've said, the differences are:
    1. If you pay you get a spot
    2. Unlimited space, as long as you pay you get a spot (see 1)

In principle I like the idea, it works out better for those with a budget to get a stand at all. I don't fall anywhere near that yet but one day that'll be invaluable :)

    Is that right?

  • Yeah, exactly! :) It could even be a part of the mgsa stand, but a paid booth section? Just throwing ideas out here.

Unfortunately that is a bit fallacious. The Indie MegaBooth has a selection process it's not just you pay and you get a spot, as there can and will only ever be so many spots available.

So then it will me like the MGSA booth except you pay for your spot?
  • As I understand your proposal. Whoever has joined this mission, shares the space and the 1 display screen to demo, right? In that case who chooses the timeslots to demo each individual project?

I would imagine that there are quite a few people applying to the MegaBooth. Some products are asked to be involved in it (they actually approached me directly, but I just didn't have the funds to go!), which is why they have more of a selection process.

For these purposes I cant imagine a number of people large enough to require a selection vetting process.

SUGBOERIE, I think it would be that you rent out your space for the entire duration of the show. So you would man your station for the full 3(?) days of the convention.
