Anyone Heard of this Expo?

edited in General
Has anyone heard of the "The West African Gaming Expo" to be held in Lagos at the end of August?

I have received some sketchy information and I have requested some more information, but I would just like to see here if anyone has heard of this or knows about it.

Thanks

  • Nothing in my email/alerts about it. Want me to check with the Nigerian devs we met at AMAZE last year?
  • @dislekcia: Yes please if you can. I would greatly appreciate that. Thanks.

    I received the email as well today.

    They say its the first west african game expo that they are hoping to use to help developers across africa get exposure.

    From the email:
    The event would consist of:

    · Seminar and conference for developers
    · Networking between exhibitors
    · Networking between developers
    · Games tournament
    · ETC

    We believe this is a good opportunity for Red Dot Lab to increase their market share in the African continent

    With the economy of the continent growing, citizens would be looking for more options when it comes to leisure and relaxation, we feel creating a suitable option like gaming would also create more options for the future generation. Red Dot Lab can not only fill the void in the African market, but would also act as a way of showing the international community how far we have come in the gaming genre.

    We currently have backing from very excited sponsors such as financial institutions, technological companies, fast food outlets, and major international beverage companies to name a few. We are also partnering up with newspapers and magazines to help us promote the event.
  • So you have any info on a time/date that it's happening or a website link for me so that SJ can follow up on it?
  • No details as of yet. I think he mentioned something about giving me more info around July

    Anything other than a random expo name would be useful. Like an email address maybe? SJ says that it might be something that the IGDA Nigeria is trying to set up, but he's asking who it came from so that he can check if it's the same guy...
  • Will forward you the mail
  • Did someone mention SJ?

    I feel this gif is relevant.

  • @dislekcia

    The gentleman phoned me and his name is: Adedoyin Ogundoyin

    When I asked for more information he sent me the following information.

    The event is a 3 day event, commencing on:
    Thursday 28 2014 (Tutorial and Conference seminar mainly for local African developers.)
    Friday 29 2014 (Networking between international exhibitors and locally based exhibitors, and briefing about exhibition)
    Saturday 30 2014 (The first West African Gaming Expo, meeting clients first hand, and showing them what you have to offer)

    The exact location is yet to be decided, due to the fact that this is the first exhibition to be held, it is very difficult to predict the amount of people that will show up, although we already have certain locations in mind, we do not want to rush into a decision. The event will definitely be taking place in Lagos.

    The website is still in construction, we are a new company trying to bring new things to Africa, we are currently working with web developers and we are hoping to launch by July, although we are predicting our marketing will start before this date.

    I have sent you a PM with the telephone number and e-mail address of this gentleman.

    I hope this helps.

  • SJ says that Adedoyin was supposed to make it to AMAZE last year but couldn't in the end. So at the very least he's not some random dude trying to get people's attention. There's also a chance that he could be working with the IGDA Nigeria person that SJ says spoke about a similar-sounding event, so he'll check up with them and find out what's up.

    I wouldn't make any travel plans just yet though - more info is useful, but I'd be interested in seeing the dev community that side of Africa, that's for sure!

  • @dislekcia: Thanks for the info.

    Yeah I informed Adedoyin that once he has a venue tied down and more information, including the website, that I will give him a definitive answer.

    Thanks for the leg work ... greatly appreciated. 8-}

    First apologies if am invading the space. The name is Idamiebi from Sonbim Games , here in Nigeria.
    I got the same email and a phonecall. I googled about the expo and that's what landed me here.
    I guess you're all right since I couldn't find any official website or anything. details are still sketchy as it's the first one.

    Guess I'll wait till July and be watching for updates

    @Fengol
    Nothing new yet but I'll be following up. At the very least ;based on interest,website, promotion and sponsorship details.
    I should be able to make a fair assessment of how serious it could be by June and would be able to share with the community.
    I could buzz the IGDA Rep and see if he knows about it though.

    Awesome stuff you have going on here. Really Nice Community

    also If it's ok to do that , would like to share a few of our projects here (.. alphas... thoughts... feedback, that kinda thing)

    @hanli , Thanks
