Read more here.

I grew up playing the first four to death with my best friend on his 486 computer, and how so. A deeply immersive, intelligent and witty storyline, coupled with RPG elements and the ability to transfer your character from sequel to sequel.

It melded the worlds of the usually tainted and stoic JRPG's, mixed in the architecture of previously famous Sierra titles that made their name, and created such a wonderful world of crazy characters, settings that reflected rich histories from Africa, the Middle East and Europe, and blended them all into a set of titles I've played more times than I've had girlfriends.

And someone even made a spoof version far more funnier and FAR more dirtier here. :P

If those too young to have ever come across this series, now's the time to check it out and find out where real adventure games get their credit from.

Oh yes! Do play Quest for Glory 2 VGA remake!

I did quite a few animations for that game a few years ago. Lots of fun, and an incredible story!

The Hero6 project was started in the late 90's to create a new fan made-game based on Quest for Glory. We were at one point about 300 members, which included 4 South Africans (myself included obviously). The project was done entirely in forums like these, and a LOT of work was posted. Problem was, there was no plan. Everybody had their own ideas and simply went with it. It was so vast, at one stage the game had 650 rooms and 300 full dialogue characters! Nothing really fit together. The music department had incredible pieces, but everything differed and there was no continuity. There were a number of plots and sub-versions, but nobody really knew the whole story.

Programming just couldn't fit everything in, and requests for changes were plenty. At one stage a few of us tried to 'guide' the project, but then the personality clashes started.

AGDInteractive was born from that project, with a few of the fans deciding to remake the King's Quests which haven't been updated yet. I got involved in King's Quest 1 and 3. Eventually I also helped finish Quest for Glory 2.

My point is, everybody who's interested in getting involved in game-making should get involved with an online project like these. You get to work with people from all over, and you learn a lot. These projects are rarely successful, but you can't beat the experience.
