[Job non-paid] Looking for Artist / Business Partner
Hi Everyone!
I am currently developing a top down stealth / espionage game. I have so far made a character / wall collision prototype and a Volumetric Lighting engine. Currently busy with an AI prototype.
My goals are to establish a new SA based game studio and release this first game onto Steam (if green-lit). I'd also like to port it to Linux, iOS and Android. I have already written an small game outline / proposal which has gotten great feedback.
What I am currently trying to find is a competent video game artist with a passion for video games to join me on this adventure in a partnership. Therefore like myself, there is no compensation until release, but an opportunity for great success.
I live in Cape town and it would be great if you did too, but it's not essential. I understand of course that this is not for everyone and the idea of "free" work puts people off.
Let me know if you are interested,
Thanks.

In reality though what this is right now is just a dream. Firstly it would do better if you showed us some of your prototypes; screencaps, videos, test apps, etc. Something that's more than words in the ether. Secondly if you make a game without a capital investment you won't likely draw anyone to your cause. No budget means no benefit to anyone but yourself. Additionally no budget means no accountability so you can just "give up cause its hard" and the artist will receive nothing but a bad attitude and a lesson about working for free.
Good dream, poor execution. Get some advice about opening a studio, I'd say go see the guys at QCF, they'll be happy to help you out on your way.
Goraan out.
Can you talk more about what your game's about, show a video or give me something to play?
As against working for free as I am (because, really, wtf), I'd consider it if I were working with a truly kick-ass, experienced team with a great prototype.
1. Go to Cape Town meetup on the 29th January (I think).
2. Impress lots of people with an awesome prototype
3. ???
4. Profit
And by impress, I mean really really impress. You're game is going to have to be absolutely mindblowingly awesome if anyone's going to consider putting time in without getting paid.
1. Be careful of writing an engine and not your game. They're not the same thing.
2. Prototypes win. Put playable things in front of as many people as possible to get feedback to make them better. Iterate. Make better prototypes, get more people interested as the potential of your project grows.
3. Don't look for "support" or "funding" or "art" or "team members" early. Build something, improve it visibly, then people will come to you. You don't need any of those things to build the bones of a game that can start your feedback-iteration process.
4. Starting a company is a lot of very different work to making a game. Focus on the game first, then build the company when you can't avoid making money with the game anymore and can pay people to help you.
5. You are not alone and nobody is hostile towards you :) Come to the meetups, this is a friendly space.
...
There are so many examples of the Prototype -> Feedback -> Polish -> Attract Skills pattern working. Desktop Dungeons is one, this thread is another from 2 days ago... That's how you do it :)
I'll put up some stuff for you guys to look at as soon as I can. I work a full time job from hell so my dev is in the evenings and weekends.
Pierre.
