[Job] Programmers and Designers needed for exciting development

edited in Jobs
Hi all,

Know I'm new here so let me first introduce myself. I'm Crispin Stopforth. I run a company called Inkblot Pictures (www.inkblot.co.za and we mostly do film, TV, video and visual effects) and we've been offered the chance to develop an educational, informative, hugely fun and inspiring game for a major local company.

Off the bat let me say that I personally know nothing about building a game, but I do know what games I like so I would be running the project relying on you amazing people to make the magic happen.

The deadlines are pretty tight - as they usually are with these sorts of clients - and we need to present an idea/concept/storyboard of the game to the client by the 17th of December. Also the first stage of the project needs to go live by the end of January 2014! So I'd need people who are available over the December/January period.

Anyone interested (in the Johannesburg area) please let me know here, also we'd like to meet at the end of next week for a brainstorming/plotting session, but I'd love to meet with whoever is keen before then so please let me know, thanks all.

  • Hi Crispiwan,

Firstly thanks for posting this on the forums and finding the community.

    A few questions.

Your deadlines seam really tight for any game of much consequence. Is your scope realistic for the timelines. I have been involved in a few similar projects and the sort of deadlines versus the scope of the project immediate concern me regarding the possible risks.

What platforms are you considering as platforms make a difference to who here could assist you since it changes what technologies are best. Some of the platforms have a publication cycle of a few weeks.

Is this a 2D concept or 3D will your company be facilitating the visuals for the project or will the be something the team you work with needs to do?
  • Hi tbulford,

Thanks for the response. I was given the address to the community from Geoff over at NAG, have been a reader and avid gamer for many years.

    With regards to your questions:

The deadlines are unfortunately being dictated by the client, however the overall concept is a year-long project that continually develops with milestone implementation of various key elements within the game

Platformwise, I would need help from whomever was interested to decide what the best route to go would be. The initial request from the client was that it would be accessible via their intranet, but they have not ruled out the possibility of it being some form of app for mobile devices either - I think the plan would be to work with whichever platform would give us the best results in the shortest initial timeframe.

In terms of visuals, we would be creating everything as a team from scratch. I have a few in-house resources that can be allocated as well, but obviously the final results would have to be kept to as simplistic a render as possible to help within the restrictive timelines.

I hope this answers your questions and am totally open to any others you may have, thanks again for responding.

  • Hey Luke,

Thanks so much for the response! Really enjoyed the art on your blog. We're in discussions with a team about this project, but will let you know if that doesn't work out.

    Cheers
  • Just curious - is this game perhaps one that is intended to accompany a documentary about a well known South African historical political figure?
  • Rusty, the answer to your question is "No".
    Oh and "42".

Uhm, we don't really support the sparking of dead, VERY dead threads.

Also, from a place of trying to be helpful, and some advice on how to be professional. Maybe try to email CVs and Portfolios rather than place them on forums hoping to be discovered by people who left several years ago... or something.
