Calling Female Game Devs - Interviewees wanted by Cosmopolitan Magazine

edited in General
Hey all,

I've been asked by a journalist at Cosmopolitan to put her in contact with female game developers / artists / designers etc for a piece they are doing on women in games.

I don't want to just hand out names, so I would like to ask for volunteers please? This sort of thing is tricky (may well be a "omg-grls-in-games who knew!" angle) but it is important to make people aware of the open community we actually do have, and hopefully begin creating female role-models for young girls out there.

Comments

  • I'll volunteer, although, I sometimes worry that my role enforces a secondary cliche of girls in games only as artists; but I suspect this particular audience may not be there quite yet.
  • I forwarded this link to Natalie Ausmeier and Gina Nelson who I had the pleasure to work with at Luma Arcade.

    true words. Thanks @damousey :)
PM me your email address and phone/

    Thanks @Fengol :)
  • I could dress up as a lady? :P

On a serious note, I am glad that the great women in game development are getting some, long overdue, credit and acknowledgement.

+1 for Natalie and Gina (both of whom we should really convince to get onto these forums..)
  • @mattBenic, I don't know either of them...but I'm pretty sure Gina is here, somewhere.

Also, plus one for this. I'm still a bit weirded out by the fact that this problem exists but hopefully articles like these can be used to bridge this weird gap.
  • What exactly are the requirements to qualify?
  • Gina's been in the UK for about a year now, I think. Are they limiting their search to local female game developers?
  • Hi guys, I got in touch with the senior editor at Cosmo to find out more about this, and hopefully clear up any confusion. The feedback from the editor is as follows:

"We are looking for a female game developer, aged between 25-30. It will be for www.cosmopolitan.co.za and our mobi site. This story is part of our digital activation for the annual tech hunter supplement (which comes out in the December magazine)

The magazine will have a story that looks at sexism in the gaming industry. It doesn't include an interview with a game developer. I think it would be fantastic to have a female game developer tell us about a day in her life, what it means to be a game developer beyond just the title."

So in summary they are looking for one developer and the interview will be on the web and mobi-site. Hope this helps :)
