Enthused Dragon's Portifolio

edited in Jobs
Hi;

I made a blog that contains my portfolio on it.
It's not complete right now, going to update it over the next few weeks.
There is only content under the 3D Designs part of the portfolio.
Please feel free to check it out and comment.
Any comments on my work will be useful, I still have a lot to learn. :-)

  • It's so green!

I'd like to ask why you're putting the energy into the portfolio right now? are you specifically looking for work? or do you see this as a "obvious" next step that you need to take?

The reason I ask is that I think you'd get more useful feedback and critique, and more interaction with other creatives using something like a progress thread in an appropriate community. That would take less effort and energy from your side than building a showcase type of thing.

  • I'm actually looking to get into game dev so I posted here for anyone who'd like to view it.
Although I still need work, I had to start some where. :-D

So true, and kudos for putting yourself out there, it can be a scary step.

Now, I can't assess much beyond art things. And even within that, I have a somewhat limited 3D experience. So I might be missing some very clever problem solving, but if I'm not, I don't see this portfolio contributing to your success at this point. I realize you only have one part of it up so far, but I feel like there are enough detractions from quality to say what I'm reading in it, so far, fairly. There are things I see in your portfolio that would make me rather choose to not work with you than want to work with you.

I can expand on those and advise you toward either presenting your pieces better or improving what you're producing if you want the critique.

or, tell us what goals you're really working toward. Maybe these are just uni projects that don't actually represent where you're aiming?
  • hmmm
I understand your point since these aren't my best projects relay, and most of them took me less than a day to make.
They were all used in a Uni project, except for the Swords and the Hippo(My current project).
I'm not good with textures so I should probably not use them in my portfolio, only the raw 3D model.
Thinking about it now, I should also give more information?
Like Polly Count and Wire view?
I haven't made anything that aims specifically at something...
So I'll work on some stuff and update those that I have online.

If there is anything else that I should change let me know.
I should probably change a bit of the color as well since it's like you said too green. :-P
  • You say that you're a software developer with C++ and Java skills. Unless you want to switch to 3D modelling and game content creation, I would focus on your programming (I think that's what you said you were studying?). From what I've seen job roles tend to be quite specific -- companies looking for a programmer don't require them to create models and textures as well, and vice versa (artists certainly aren't required to possess programming knowledge).

If you're still studying the only thing you can do at this point if you want to move into the industry is work at honing your skills and getting a few pet projects under your belt.
