On-Off Color

edited in Questions and Answers
Hi

Just a question. If you have a button indicating a setting that is either on or off.

If the color is black and white.
Will ON be : Black or white
Will OFF be: Black or white

Im still deciding on this one..

Any opinions will be really welcome.

Thanks
Wimpie

  • Wouldn't the choice be up to you? IMO : White = ON, Black = OFF.

Maybe post an example of what you're trying to achieve. You could use shading, strokes, glow etc in photoshop to achieve cool effects that might give the effect of being on/off.
  • I'm not sure of the context, but I think the fact that you are asking the question means you should use something less ambiguous than black/white.

@Fengol,@RickyGc and @Rigormortis here is a example of the Settings-Screen. I have attached the screen. In both scenarios ON can be white or ON can be black. Im throwing this out to the community to understand what makes sense to the majority.

  • Use a tick for on. That way it's not ambiguous.

  • @dislekcia, thanks , awesome suggestion , makes much more sense than black or white.
  • What Dis said. Whenever you have a binary choice anywhere, never use just colour to distinguish the choice. That's a Twinkie denial condition :D
  • I think you *could* use just the colour if you've already established somewhere in your game/loading screen/main menu that black/white means on. Otherwise: the tick. If you're gonna be using a more abstract interface (which I am personally a big fan of, more avenues to explore) you kinda also need to give them a "tutorial" on how to use it.
  • @mattbenic , @Wes_Matthews thanks for the feedback , I have implemented the tick model, it is the most less-confusing ;-)
