Discussion Board Questions

edited in Questions and Answers
Hi guys,

I'm new here, so I might be missing something. The search feature seems extremely limited. There must be tons of information on the board, but searches are ordered by time/date and not relevance. Is there a better way to search?

The FAQ section is a good, drop in the bucket, but wouldn't it make sense having a stickied link/section/page or something with more in-depth information for people to access.

Tutorials or a page with links to good tutorials would be epic.

Now someone might come saying, just google it, that's how your learn herp derp. I know I can. But on my websites I know how lazy people are :) we want to see it on every page, ready to click.

This wouldn't really bother me if the search worked properly.

For me, the best way I've found to search was... Google.

Googling the topic you're looking for, followed by makegamesSA gets pretty good hits. There's also a way to confine the search strictly within makegamesSA content, something like :makegamessa.com or something... Not sure.

Yeah it would be great if we could just pull in Google Search into our own search.
  • You add "site:makegamessa.com" to your search, afaik.
  • Yeah, the default search in the Vanilla forums is pretty sucky. There's a plugin which supposedly vastly improves it but requires services to be run by our service provider and it's just not at the top of my list yet.
  • Can't it just plug directly into google search? It's free after all?
  • @Fengol Are your referring to SphinxSearch? It seems powerful!

@Tuism is right though. Vanoogle seems to do just that. Its a custom google search plugin.

    I think it's worth a try :D
  • Well shot for the epic board regardless! I'll make use of the above mentioned searching methods for now :)
  • searching with site:makegamessa.com [query] really helps! There is good content on the site :)
