Now we just need to confirm demos and machines to play them on. Can we get Bear Chuck; zX; Book of Blood; Toxic Bunny confirmed? And anyone else with a game they want played/want feedback on?
For focused feedback we could have something on the AI in Bear Chuck and the difficulty in zX, perhaps?
Bear Chuck will represent :)
We should have the tutorial levels done by then at worst (hoping they will be good for the rAge build)

With regards to the common dev tools: if we are using a single 20min slot are we going to be focusing on just one of the tools (GM or Unity) and if it is GM might I suggest doing the demo in GM8 as opposed to GM:S as the free version of GM:S is rather cruddy while the free GM8 can really just make a game without much problems.
It is the best tool for prototyping and full game making that I have seen. (for 2d games)
I could give a short introduction to making games with GM?
I've got some student examples of what we created within our 2-4 hour classes, I'd be happy to showcase those? Maybe it's easier to just talk through the examples we created?
I think the demos that your class has done would be an excellent platform for the talk.

@ all
Although I still think each tool would require a 20min talk to show people some basics and get them excited about using it. Ye sure you can blitz through the first GM tutorial in 5min if you have the sprites loaded, but I can't see doing a decent demonstration to get people excited about using unity, gimp, or audacity. Since what I would really want is people to walk out of the meet going "Ok wow they made like 3 games in 20 minutes and there was quite a bit of cool stuff I want to go and try and make that myself.
I think just using the 20 minutes to tell people that there is this software is essentially just telling them that there is a list of stuff they should Google, and if we drop too much info there might be some form of analysis paralysis. If we just go here is this piece of software it is great for beginners if you're a programmer or artist: this is how you do stuff with it.
Blitzing through hugely broad stuff sounds as if it'd be more intimidating than enlightening, and I don't see it's value. I also feel as if it'd place emphasis on the wrong thing, especially if it includes art and sound tools: i.e. downloading software vs. becoming more aware of the core skills that make an artist/designer/sound engineer/writer/etc. any good.
Also... what's the value in having rAge feedback? I'm not saying it shouldn't be done or anything; I'm just wondering what we expect people to get out of it, especially if we expect a bunch of new members to be coming from rAge.
I believe @Chippit may be demoing one of @Nandrew's games for him.
Yeah I can just cruise over my course material. What we did week by week, as well as some examples of student games?
Should be able to squeeze that into 10 minutes quite easily :)
Im very new to Game Development and i saw you guys at rage this year and i would like to know if even a "noob" can join this event?
Was awesome meeting a bunch of you at rAge. I will definitely be pulling through for the monthly get togethers going forward - hard to call myself 'Indie Zoe' without keeping a finger on the local pulse. Excited to meet everyone then!
*Super excited* to have a game dev community in my back yard !
I am busy with test week at varsity, but I would really like to come through for the event, especially for the introduction to development tools. Would it be possible for someone to record this part of the event and upload to Youtube? It could be very useful to add to the FAQ section of the site too?!
@Gresham, The audotoriums aren't too hard to find. When you enter the door you will see a security desk right in front of you, just head to to the right down a hall and you will see the doors of the auditoriums to your right. If I remember correctly we are in Auditorium 2. I hope that helps.
@shambok...sjweeeet! :)
That way people become aware of the tools as well as get an intro to making cool stuff?
This would be my first event if I decide to go and I would really like to be there for the intro to game dev, but I also have a test at varsity the next morning :|
Can someone convince me to go :D What happens at the events except for the obvious on the agenda as stated above?
When would the next event be? (probably during exams :( )
We have community nights every 2nd Tuesday of the month so the next session will be 12 November.
I was without internet last night after the rain, and couldn't pull the stuff I'm contracting on after hours, and ended up wasting an evening and going to bed early. I don't think I can make the meetup tonight. :(
Can someone please try and get a video up. I also see the last meeting part 1 is on YouTube. Where is the rest?
