We're bringing our cat that we made the game about; she's going to talk about her experiences being a playable videogame character. Or maybe she'll just sit on the podium grooming herself.

You will never know if you don't give her the opportunity.
Otherwise I could do the talk that I offered to do? (If there isn't anything fresh not being performed by a cat).
Errr..sorry for the late notice (my lift only just notified me that he can't be my lift) but would it be possible for anybody to give me a lift to/from UCT this evening?
Thanks to everyone who came tonight and to all our contributors for their efforts. I also received a ton of positive feed back for the new format, so we will definitely be running with that in the future :)
Contributing to that feedback - MUCH better than the first meet we went to; actually got to talk to some people this time and still left at a reasonable hour for our drive back to GBay :D
I really enjoyed the playing games and chatting sections (and it seemed to me that the playing-games-and-getting-feedback was even more useful for the developers involved than I had expected it to be).
I wasn't so sure the format was working before the meetup started, but after the talks it really clicked and was awesome to see. Not only were devs getting lots of quality feedback but there was also a very strong sense of community with lots of people engaging who might now otherwise have done so, which I think is really awesome and cool!
Sounds like this new plan is awesome from all the feedback, we should look into adopting it for Jozi :) Though I expect this month's meetup to be another non-regular meetup cos of rAge just a few days preceding :)
Just following on from @BlackShipsFilltheSky 's talk on games that lend themselves well to Machinima, this is one of the first things Jaco and I made after we got Minecraft...
That was super super cool! Not surprised at all it got 3/4 of a million views.
I don't want to detract from the effort and skill that went into creating the video. But it is amazing how Minecraft can facilitate a video like that. Besides the tools and the customization in Minecraft (that allowed the sets and the characters to be created) the lore of Minecraft is a brilliant backdrop (and I appreciate how you subverted it).
The comments on that video are both hilarious and hilariously consistent. And it's still my 'top grossing' video - two years old and it's still getting 20 - 40k views a month. Minecraft is WONDERFUL for making Machinima. Most of my MC videos are straight up boring Let's Plays but there's so much endless scope for interesting content. I've done a few 'music videos' (I only barely sing well enough to carry them) using Minecraft, and another thing I find interesting is that though mine were all recorded in-game, it's very popular to take the assets into blender and rig up animations. It's kinda inception-esque.

Yeah don't worry, haha. We didn't spend a great deal of time on it, as evidenced by the Skype pop-up about 40s in >.<
Damn, so gutted I missed the last meet-up. The long weekend and short-lived freedom & ecstacy away from the corporate saltmine has seriously messed with my clock that usually highlights all my important events. Is there somewhere one can view (youtube?) any of the presentations?
@RustyBroomHandle hahaha, cool video. BTW I know you're onto something good with your game and all. It's like an aura... you know? The kind you can sense on people who are newly in love. They're in a different zone... just know your game is going to be huge.
+1 for the demo format change myself too. I got to play a bunch more games than I would have seen in the same time and the devs could get more feedback too. Fun socialising after as well :)
Comments
@blackshipsfillthesky Well Jaco and I are teetotal so that's two extra shares for everyone else ;p
@atomicdomb I'm giving you a focused feedback slot for your trailer, you don't have to use the full time.
Updated the OP

In other news could someone bring a VGA/HDVI converter if poss? >.<
You're welcome. :P

The creeper in the hole was a *stroke* of genius.
Thanks!

and this:
I had to leave a bit early, but I wish I could have stuck around a *lot* longer. Got to try out one or two other games, at least. ;)
