I remember when Brett Seyler (then VP at Unity3D) was out here, must be 3 years ago, saying they were looking at adding 2D support; I really hope it happens.
It uses mechanim animation blend trees!!! OMW I'm super excited about it! Somehow I don't think the paid 2d solutions on the asset store are as happy as I am.
This is brilliant! Lack of genuine 2D physics, rendering and editor integration is what has put me off using Unity. And with PS Vita and PS Mobile support due by the end of the year, it looks like I'm quickly running out of excuses to roll my own tech.
Does the ETA for Unity 4.3 get any more specific than "fall"? How does one get access to the beta?
I'm also excited, but also a bit reserved. I was a bit hurt when the new GUI did not came out as promised ;_; But if it happens... oi how happy I would be!
We might be under NDA but that wont mean we cant make sure we align the workshop with it. We were in the alpha and beta runs for Unity windows 8. Although we have few of the issues most did as we have almost always stuck to Unity libs and don't use any dll's.
It'd be pretty sweet to hear some first impressions at the workshop (if that is possible).
I don't think this has been posted here... but there's some really sweet 2D toolsets that I imagine are going to be even better (and less clumsy) after Unity has better native 2D tools:
We're going to try get early access to Unity 4's 2D features as well. Looking forward to experimenting with it!
Well, if we have any by then I will give as much as I can. Still waiting for feedback about the closed beta. Seams they really keeping it closed this time.
