*bump* and changed name to Battle Blocks XD Have figured out how PS3 controllers work and hopefully I can demo a playable at tomorrow's next week's joburg meet :)
-
Well, on the random dice thing - not to say eliminate luck completely, but give players more control of the outcomes - like the examples I gave of giving players the ability to arrange the random dudes they got dealt, or letting them re-roll the dic…

I'm bringing a playable to the meetup tomorrow, well, hopefully, will implement code today :)

OMGEE thanks Squidcor, I've been messing about with this for ever, and your instructions were exactly what I needed to get it working :D For anyone who also am going to try gamepads in GMS: 1. A 360 wireless controller with the charger cable in wi…

So I downloaded and gave it a play, to be honest I think the concept is pretty cool, but there're a few things in the execution that makes it kinda hard to navigate and do seemingly simple tasks. 1. Why does each player have to click their button t…

Hey! Thanks for trying it out!! :D I know of the issue you raise about getting stuck down a tunnel - at first I tried to fix it by letting upwards movement of the block throw pass through other blocks, so you can always throw blocks out even if you …

I did some more investigation, it seems that on a PC, getting the PS3 controller to work at all takes quite a bit of doing, so an xbox360 controller seems to be the only way to get one of the big name controllers to work on a PC without too much tro…

I'm keen to get something playable for rAge for this little thing I've been working on, although right now half the problem is getting controllers to work with it and coding more of the mechanics. It won't be anywhere near commercial ready, but it'l…

How do I use Xbox/ps3 controllers in my game?? (Game Maker Studio) I'd like to get some multiplayer going so I can test my game but mine has analogue input so it needs two controllers (or port prototype to touchscreen), and it would seem two contro…

Thanks! Indeed the width and the height were the culprit! Removed those and they work perfectly :) Thanks! :D

First time I tried it took so long I stopped looking at it - definitely more than 5 minutes. Second time (cached? Not sure) it was 18 seconds. Plus a second of the load bar jiggling at the end when it seemed to have finished loading.

I like the idea of having to toss your gun to pick up new ones, limited ammo makes having different weapons make so much sense. How about upgrading your character to affect the weapons in different ways, and make it so you can only have 2 upgrades a…

+1 for interest, though of course I'm in Jhb. Any chance of getting game-industry-specific information? "we require moar videos"
-
Well done on presentation, but I guess everyone else will say the same thing - show us gameplay, even if it's not pretty :) Because opinions/tips/help on some words and sketches won't help anything ;) Welcome onboard :)

Thanks for sharing! Loved it SO MUCH, Braid's art was just simply fantastic, and seeing the thought that has gone into all of its parts was really mind blowing. Mind blown!

Awesome stuff! I'm totally looking forward to the Lego Movie :) Welcome and so very curious about more of you guy's game stuff coming up!

Well actually the whole game is a Quantum Bro. You wake up from death as someone random, carry on with your business as if you were always there... THIS. IS. QUANTUM. BRO.

I'd say that if your game gets to a functionally fun stage, stickman or not, it'll be fun. And with that, you can take it to attract artists to your team. Or you can pay artists up front, which to me is probably less in your favour. It's always mor…

That first bit about the living room is one thing, but the later bits about games as an economy is amazing. Definitely something I can buy into. It's VERY big.

Things like this and the other thing about pathfinding and much more, etc reminded me - are we keeping a record of this stuff in the wiki? They're extremely valuable to anyone in or will be joining the community.

Also there's been tons of rumors about the Steam Box, Valve's console. For me, that's pretty perfect. Yes you can hook your PC directly to a TV to play stuff but the technicalities mean (for me anyway, anecdotally) that I'd have to get a wireless TV…

I've been waking up with tunes in my head, and been putting them down (really craply) on Garage Band on my iPad even before getting out of bed. It's been a really interesting exercise, especially considering the most I actually know about music is k…

Yeah I was thinking of doing two pages just like you said to separate the starting rules to the running rules. Right now I'm separating it into the rules you need to get the gist of things, then second page into details like what you can/can't do, t…

Hey guys, I took some time and put together this, I think it's almost there and has most of it covered. It's vector but I'm attaching an image so it will show here. Do think another page with additional rules (cutting legs etc) might be "needed". […

AH! Yes indeed it's the same game, lol so it was yours, that was embarrassing :P Well I actually can't figure out what you're looking for (like @Blackshipsfillthesky said), soooo... If you're looking for building-along-the-edge, Catan does exactl…

Hmmm tile based hex games in boardgame space: Neuroshima Hex There are these old Japanese Romans Three Kingdom games... Played on a psudo hex grid There was someone on here that made a hex game, with rotating bits to make up different shapes... …

Welcome! :D I personally went and learned Game Maker, but basically anyone will tell you go for whatever you feel comfortable with, because what you'll learn is more the HOW to make a game than the HOW to use that particular tool. Although the tho…

QWOP Madiba shuffle! That's awesome! :D So here's what I think we can do - set aside a weekend in the month between now and then, and do a game jam, with the goal of releasing those games (putting them to the public) either before or on July 18th. …

omg I LOVE KACHINA, that idea is fantastic. Great for a one-man project too. Amazing :D

Damn I missed that, hope they get it up soon! Nevermind I didn't see you can scroll down LOL

Maybe, maybe, just maybe, close up the space between the F and the O by a liiittle bit, it looks a bit too spacious there... That's the only comment I have there... Well, besides AWESOME SHINY METAL LOGO IS AWESOME :D

Hey I didn't realise Gunpoint was done and out! GREAT SCOTTS!! :D

Gamedevception! @Rigormortis and I made our game for IndieSpeedRun with too much ambition and not enough experience, which resulted in what felt like a drug addled trip. Which is what I feel game dev games convey very well :) Game dev story's stru…

Gorgeous! :D I dunno if this is a valid observation, but seems to me that the daft punk helmet thing is becoming a thing very quickly lately :)

I don't really have an answer, but I guess overall people's buying habit in games are more complex than movies, series, books, etc, and that's because the medium is intrinsically more complex than those, and hits much more than those. Though it's n…
