  • It may be a bit soon, but calling Chris to give us a talk about Stasis in its final form!
  • Sent him a message about it ;)
  • Nic and I will be there and will happily do a postmortem talk about Stasis. :)
  • Every time I come up to Joburg I miss the meetup by one day or so. Gonna have to do my A MAZE and rAge planning better next year. Hope the meetup gets everyone super psyched for Wednesday :D

  • @Chris_Bischoff woot thanks :)

@francoisvn, judging by this year and last AMaze starts on the second Wednesday of September, the JHB meets are the the second Tuesday of the month. This is only this year and last, I'm not exactly sure what the future will look like.

rAge is the last weekend of the Gauteng school holidays between Q3 and Q4, so not really sure how often that can be reliably linked into the JHB meetup.
  • I'd like to give a talk. If there's time.

Tentative title "Why aren't you game jamming?"
    Thanked by 1francoisvn
  • Could somebody record the talks, please?

    Very interested to hear them.
  • @SUGBOERIE I'll give a tentative yes for the talk if something AMaze related doesn't pop up.

How long would the talk take?

@garethf if you can sponsor a video camera and tripod I'll record and post the talks :p
  • Joburg people! Is anyone who is going to the meet-up driving through Kelvin=+Surroundings and could potentially hitch me? I only bite sometimes...
  • yea i definitely want to hear what @Chris_Bischoff has to say about stasis. count me in.

are we just going to mission after amaze?

  • are we just going to mission after amaze?
@subjectZero I'm not really sure what you're asking with this. Can you please clarify?

  • @Karuji thought amaze starts on the 8th? so I'm asking if everyone is going to go afterwards.

It'll be like 9/10/11/12pm after we finish the meetup, it's bed time, then the next day we'll be going to A MAZE.

@Tuism oh lol is that the plan. ok see you there
  • @subjectZero AMAZE starts on the 9th.
  • Hey guys. I am currently a student, planning on going to my first community evening Tuesday and then possibly A MAZE. Nervous and excited to listen to and learn from you all.
  • @vince great to hear that you are coming to your first meeting! No need to worry they are rather chilled things :)
  • hey guys. I'm willing to record the talk - got a DSLR that records in HD, and a tripod, so no prob.

OH man. The pressure to perform! :)

  • @wiledog_x many thanks :)

Out of interest what DSLR do you have? I have an issue with the video functionality on mine that limits video recording to 16-24min per take. IIRC it had something to do with the tech at the time so rather curious what the current state of cameras are.
  • afaik the main problems are battery and memory card space. (I remember recording stuff on a hardcore camera before while being a noob and running into trouble with both of those.)

I have a Nikon D3100 - unfortunately limited to approx 10 mins of video per take..... also the lens motor focusing noise is recorded on the soundtrack too.. not ideal at all...
Will that be a problem? I'll have to edit the takes together.....
AFAIK It has to do with what constitutes a video camera and what not, with licensing issues in the EU.
  • @wiledog_x I think that's rather in line with what the videos of the past were like, so no worries :)
  • Man, I so wanted to hear the Stasis talk, but someones gotta keep the economy going :P

If someone records the talk, I can do some sound cleanup and whatnot if you guys are interested. And hopefully I'll see all of you next month. Enjoy
  • Thanks for the good meetup tonight too! Thanks @Karuji for not being late and picking up my slack XD

I made slides anyhow so I'm gonna post some (not all) of them anyway because info and lols :P

  • This was a really rad meetup! Great to finally meet all the Joburg people :)
  • Thanks to all for the evening.
Many thanks to all the playtesters for their patience and helpfulness.
After fixing an embarrassing Meatball bug, I was able to get some very useful advice and feedback from every one.
You guys really saved me from the clutches of a dev rut there.
  • I would also like to offer my help in cleaning up the audio of the talks if needed.
    Thanked by 1Karuji

Super thanks to @Chris_Bischoff and @bischonator for the STASIS talk: it was really cool. And @SUGBOERIE for yelling at people for not jamming more. Also @Tuism for breaking the projector. And the rest of you for coming and having some fun at the meetup.

Sorry for leaving a bit early at the end there: had some friends coming in for AMaze who I really wanted to see. But hope to see you all at AMaze, and the meetup next month!
    Thanked by 1SUGBOERIE
  • hi there people. here is the link to the talk from Chris & Nick Bischoff on Stasis. I just uploaded the audio - no video - I deemed the video too crappy to publish. Sorry about that - at least everything that was discussed is in the audio file.
