A MAZE 2015 - What's the plan/Who's all going?

Hey Forumites!

I just wanted to generally find out if peeps are going up for the next A MAZE, it's still a bit away but I might time my annual Germany visit to overlap with the A MAZE Festival happening in April...

So who's going/flying/driving up?

  • Last Early Bird Full Festival Ticket only purchasable until Jan 31!
  • Wait, A MAZE Joburg isn't in April, the one last year was right before rAge, which was in October, are you looking at A MAZE Berlin?
  • Not Amaze Berlin, but Amaze Johannesburg for sure!
  • Hey, if you can go to AMAZE Berlin, do it! I've heard nothing but good things about it :)
  • Yes! Amaze Berlin! :D
  • I'll be there ^_^

  • I was there in 2013, it was absolutely wonderful.

I hope to be at Amaze Berlin again someday.
  • Yay, I'm so excited!
  • Also definitely going to Amaze Johannesburg this year. I want to have some games to show there before then.

  • @BlackShipsFilltheSky Do you have any tips going to A MAZE Berlin? Anything I should be prepared for/bring along (I want to submit Super Massive Crate Dash - the game we did for GGJ) I am fluent in German but I am guessing this will be quite international so most peeps will be conversing in English? What say thou?

  • Berlin is pretty easy to deal with even as a non-German speaker. Not everyone speaks English, but they're friendly people, and when they aren't friendly they stoic and professional.

There will be a lot of Germans at Amaze, and they'll be talking in German. But there are a LOT of international (mostly European) devs who participate, and they'll be speaking English to each other.

The public transport system just works. You can catch a tram from just about anywhere to anywhere. I found I could understand their train/tram system well enough after a bit of headscratching to get wherever I wanted to go.

Make the most of your time at Amaze. Get there as soon as it starts, and stay as late as it lasts.

Play as many games as you can, and engage with the creator (who is often hanging around nearby).

I don't know what other tips to give. There's a lot of tips over in the GDC thread that might apply. Travelling to Germany is relatively easy, it's in the same time zone, and Berlin is doable in English.
  • Really can't wait for Amaze JHB this year! Would also love to do the Berlin festival sometime as well!
  • @Mexicanopiumdog are you wondering just about AMAZE berlin or either AMAZE?

I don't know about the Berlin one but for AMAZE Jo'burg I have to echo @BlackShipsFilltheSky 's sentiment when he says
Play as many games as you can, and engage with the creator (who is often hanging around nearby).
I was very nervous speaking to the internationally acclaimed people at first thinking I was just a nobody but soon realised to just get chatting with them was the best strategy. They are just normal people who love games like we do and they'll talk to you as such. On top of that most game dev people I've met around the world are nothing but awesome, humble, honest people and are more than happy to share advice and experiences if you are just a nice friendly person (and you are so you'll be fine ;) ).

  • Properly considering going to the local AMAZE later this year, if I can manage to pry myself away from the desk and into daylight.. We should have something to show off by then as well.
  • Game dev people are the best! It is really true! Thanks raxter, appreciate your advice :D
  • Would also like to go to amaze SA this year, and probably will be.
